I just made my tubs, I'm going to use straw, should I use perlite or vermiculite at the bottom of my tubs and if so how much should I use? Thank you
P.S. the filters are Micro Magick Filter Disc

the verm/perlite layer is not needed.
btw you can put a 1"layer of moist (not wet) vermiculite to absorb the water drippinf from the sides

There are 2 holes one on both sides I'm going to take my flowhood to it, by the way I think i'm going to case to with cow dun, It is 1/2in vermiculite and 6in of layered straw and brid seed.

I don?t think there will be much air exchange through a filter disk.
When used on jars, ok, the jars don?t need much air, but the casings(or cakes) need 1-3 air exchanges per hour(acording to stamets)....

If i did that, wouldn't suck in contamination for the top of the lid? it kind of defeat the my hole idea,don't you think? I was thinking of pushing the air out not in, what do you think?

Get some weatherstripping(sticky foam strip) put that around the tub where the lid makes contact.THEN cut a port for a vaccumm cleaner...ohh you could get it real cool if you got a piece of pvc pipe that the cleaner hose would fit into, seal that pipe to the port in the tub...then put filter disk over the half of the pipe that was inside the tub...that way you could just put the cleaner hose into the pipe every so often and suck the old air out...the purpose of the filter on the pipe is so that when you are not useing the vacum contams couldnt get through the port ...i gues a pvc cap would work to.....
comments on this idea?

I think tasking a hood to those babies would be a little overkill. Sure it would assure clean air but I think after they are in a chamber like that cleanliness is'nt too much of an issue. I say though they look good. Peace.
