I decided to inoculate today because i finally found some vermiculite, but im sick. Will this increase the chances of contamination?

Influenza and Rhinovirus(common cold) are viruses...Most viruses that effect us are human specific, in the way that it is a different kind of virus that causes a dog's cold...However, if you have a bacterial infection such as Strep. or Staph., these could conceivably be emitted and cultered on your cakes or casings without your knowing..but of course Strep. and Staph. are alot rarer than the common cold or the flu.

u are more concerned about spores from molds then any bacteria since bacteria is everywhere no matter how healthy u are or how much u clean your innocl room u still have bacteria. So nothing should happen unless u got sloppy because u felt like shit.

shit i used potting soil because i didnt see anything that actually said vermiculite in the garden department.. what a waste of time effort and money. the mycelium are growing already... fuck.. dammit! nothing said vermiculite on it in the store so i assumed that it was vermiculite.. i kept thinkin that a person growin shrooms is just simulating nature and gettin some dirt and spores in a jar with whatever else for nutrients... dammit.. i didn't even have to pay for the spores. is this a complete loss or what..?

Caca, you maybe fine. I've used potting soil before. One time after a bad trip,I decided to put the cakes in a mini natural enviroment. So, I got a plastic container and filled it up with soil. I then took two finch seed cakes and buried them in the soil. I also potted two small plants on the sides buried near the cakes. For humidity, I would just spray the plants and the sides of the container with water. The top was open. I was trying to mimick nature, and they fruited nicely. So, if they can survive this, I'm sure you have a chance.

Oh right!
Potting soil isn't all that much like vermiculite but might well work. If the myc is growing then it looks like it might. Vermiculite is really light and airy puff rock stuff that is inert but holds loads of water and air - which is it's major role as part of the substrate. Soil will hold some air and water and so might work.
If you are growing them PF styel, I would be most worried about the dry, top layer. Dry verm will not sustain microbial life and so acts as an effective filter from airbourne contaminants. Soil might allow stuff to grow through it into the substrate. Still, wait and see.

It could take a bit longer but you should be fine, as a matter of fact i'm trying with poting soil + crushed rye berries right now and it's going fine (75% colonization), anyway i realized i needed something else to allow a better air circulation, i think i've allready found what i was looking for and a NEW TEK is on it's way, i'll let you know about the 3rd "element" when i achieve success, OH! This material is also an EXCELLENT top casing layer!!! ;)

I've allready taken the pic,
I've also taken more pics, here's one with some kinds of contams, pink, yellow, green, black and a few mycelium spots grown on honey agar, this is what happens when you don't sterilize well your instruments and then forgot for 1 month where you left the jar,
Honey TEK innoculation technique, plastic lid with hole on midle covered with water resistant banding aids,
and a little indica growing under the sun.... oops, sorry wrong forum ;)
