Cased Substrate Water Reservoir?
    #368538 - 08/08/01 03:00 AM (23 years, 2 months ago)

I read one of shiznitz's posts about making water reservoir's in a cake. Basically a hole is made in the cake
and filled with water to rehydrate the cake. From what I've seen it works wonders, but can this be done with substrate cased in trays? I was thinking of maybe drilling multiple holes into my fully colonized/cased rye subsrate then adding small amounts of water before and after it starts fruiting. Would this work because when it's done on cakes it seems tp make huge flushes. Please give me some feedback. Thanks

I doubt it. You're more likely to drown the casing. Why not stick with a time proven tek?

Since i use just verm to case i jsut use a syringe and inject the bottom with water then pull it up a bit and do it to the top layer aswell. I do this in a few differnt random spots after every flush. seems to work great for me. I also put a small amount of h202 in ith it just in case. So i would asume that a reservoir should work.

Hope that helps

Well, the whole reason to case a cake is to provide enough humidity/moisture for it. A reservoir for a casing is most likely going to give it TOO much water, and will drown it. Reservoir's in cakes are good, but think of the casing as being the reservoir...
