Rust Color Contam? Silicon Fumes? Bleh.

This is the first time my friend has grown cubies on his own, and hes being a bit anal retentive about everything :)

I have 2 questions

1. Im doing the PF Tek to the letter. I lost 1 jar (out of 12) early on due to a green mold, but tonite, when I... I mean my friend... went to dunk them, he noticed an orange discoloration on 1 cake... probing further into the cake (with a sterile knife) he found more rust color stuff. So he split the cake open and it is colonized with mycelium AND rust color stuff (not rust though)... anyone know what this is and if I should keep it or chunk it?

2. I got my Kaz Humidifier today and cut a couple of holes for the hose lengths. I sealed the area around them with silicon, which has caused a strong odor of silicon in the humidifier and therefor in the aquarium.... I was wondering if this will be harmful when the cakes are placed in there tomorrow...? The humidity is holding at 96% BTW....

Im probably just being too anal retentive about this whole thing but I want to get it right since I have to suplly myself now, heh.

i have no idea what the orange stuff is. kinda reminds me of when i was replacing my exhaust cause there was rust on that. we threw it out btw. hope i have been a great help. my car ran fine after that btw. fred

i don't know anything about your situation really .. except you say your humidity is holding at ninety six percent. that's pretty high humidity. kinda reminds me of the time i went to cancun and it was really hot out. i just jumped in the pool and everything was fine. ... well hope this made things work out for ya . fred

Personally I think fred is quite the comic relief. For the past couple days, I'd be reading a post and see some crazy off-the-wall response and I immeadiately know its fred.
