Kratom - indoor growing

I haven't found much out there on growing kratom -- we just got a live one, along with some heimia salicifolia (sacuichi?) in the mail. I've put them under the stairs with grow lights and everybody seems happy. I first lined the space with plastic, then brought in a small electric heater (radiator style) and a cold air humidifier. 3 banks of fluoro's to provide light. The temp is staying around 75F and the humidity 80% or so. I'm keeping the lights on 18 hours a day. I just started this 2 days ago, and am attaching a pic. Hopefully it will show up. The kratom is the middle plant.. Just wanted to start a thread on indoor growing of kratom and any other useful plants. There is much information on growing marijuana indoors, but precious little on some of these other (legal) alternatives. Please share!

Kratom grows into a 50 foot tree. You're going to run out of space within a year or two.
Good luck all the same.

Can't you just top it when it gets too tall?

You could keep topping it i suppose and end up with a somewhat bonsai'd tree. But you want a lot of big leaves and pruning will make them smaller over time. Is it too cold outside to grow where you are?

ya mon -- I live at about 9200 feet in the Rockies. Outdoors just isn't an option except for a couple months a year. I hear kratom is hard to clone, but I'm hoping to be able to get some starts off of this things sooner or later and have a new tree or 2.

You will need more room but you could keep it there a couple years with some topping. It can't take freezing so looks like indoor. They can get very wide if they are topped. You may have to top the branches too.

Ok, whatever about the size of the leaves. The most important thing I guess is the stength of the stuff. The alkaloids are known as secondary metabolites. Primary metabolites are the ordinary compounds that go into healthy plant growth. Secondary metabolites are produced in plants when they are a little stressed. These chemicals often deter pests. Pot-bound plants growing indoors may be more stressed than most. Perhaps this is good. Any opinions? http://www.entheology.net/
