adding a hard drive

So my friend and I want to add an additional hard drive (160gig) to his computer. We've never worked on one before but I read some directions online and it seems pretty straightforward and easy.. only thing I've done to computers is add ram, sound cards, etc.. never a hard drive.
So my question is are there any forseeable things we should watch out for. Possible problems, etc. I'm mostly concerned about the setup after it is installed. This master/slave stuff.. which one should be master the bigger one?
stats:
compaq 1200MHz celeron
1.20 GHz
XP
hard drive: maxtor 160GB 7200rpm, ultra ATA/133 8mb cache

If you have 2 hard drives sharing one cable you should set the hard drive with the operating system to be the master drive and set the other one to slave. It is really easy. Set the jumpers, plug it in, and turn on your computer. It will most likely be detected automatically, but if it isn't check your bios settings and make sure autodetect is turned on. If that doesn't make it work check your jumper settings. The master drive should be the one on the end of the cable btw.
EDIT: You also have to format the drive in windows after it is installed.

I fitted a extra harddrive today, i agree with everything z@z.com said, just make sure u get the jumpers right and you should be fine. Pref. your slave should be formatted (or not have a OS installed) and the master should have an OS ect.

You MAY run into the problem of windows only recognizing 127GB of the drive, I got a 250 and had this problem. You either have to go into disk managment and make a new partion which isn't all that bad or I think the other alternative is to have an XP disc with service pack 1 installed on it and then re-install the OS with your new drive.

Yeah you may have trouble allocating the disk space. Another thing you may need a controller card or have multiple partitions. Use the software it comes with to format the hard drive with NTFS. FAT32 is bad. Normally it is a cd you have to boot off of after you hook the hard drive up.
If the machine will not boot off the disk hit f12, delete or somthing like that to get into the BIOS settings (dont change things ) and find boot sequence and put the cd rom before the hard drive.
