Human nature being what it is, force is required to maintain peace. Sad but true.

This is true when you replace nature with culture in that sentence.

There are actually a few groups of people/tribes (damn, can't find the right word :smirk:) that have NO agression. Agression is despized and NOT toletrated. No one is agressive and from when someone is born to when they are grown up people they don't witness any agression and live peacefull. So it's very nice to see that it is possible.
The problem is in our culture and you can't just change it just like that. It would be extremely difficult if not impossible to change that for one because it's so large scaled.

great discussion btw

erm it wont work. Well that is it may improve the quality of life for those on welfare and create a smarter country due to increases in funding in the education etc.. or anything else other than military spending, but it leaves a country very vulnerable obviously.

It's just like communism, it only works if everyone is fair and honest and doesn't exploit the situation. If everybody (every nation in the world) realises that the only way humanity can survive into the future is through mutual respect and unconditional love towards every other being on this planet and even the whole universe if we are to move even further forward.

So like that dude said this can only happen from inside. A global shift in consciousness so that we may let go of our fears and primal instincts for self preservation that are no longer necessary - there are no threats to us except for ourselves! So that we don't envy others or compete with them and want to control them and have power, once we let go of the delusion that we are seperate from each other we can really move forward.

It just seems that our species was a little too smart for it's own good. Had we not created tools to kill animals then lions could still eat us and there'd be no problems with overpopulation or pollution and much less of the whole 'killing each other' thing.

I suppose sooner or later it will come to the critical point, evolve or die. But it won't be some cataclysmic event like The Day After Tommorow, but a slow demise spanning over years until the last few humans choke and die on their own C02.

haha what a bummer!

On a lighter note check out this link. God I'm happy i'm not american and having my government spend my tax money on these giant dildos in the sky, in the name of keeping me safe.

-also anybody who hasn't seen Dr. Strangelove yet, i suggest you do, or we may one day have our world leaders having a 'mine-shaft race' after the arms race obliterates the rest of us.

"Just miles away from your front doorstep men are being trained to kill, the government calls it 'The Army' We think a more alarmist name would be 'The Killbot Factory!"

I'm the Dude. So that's what you  call me.  That, or Duder.  His  Dudeness.
Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing.

hehe so if aggression is not tolerated, what do they do when someone becomes aggressive? ask them politely to stop?

The UK has nothing really to lose (except its unnecessary sense of national pride) by disbanding its standing army. We are not going to get attacked anytime soon. Our intelligence service is very good, so we should be able to notice if an attack becomes more likely. We are friends with most of the powerful countries, and the countries that might consider us enemies are more hostile to the US than they are us.

As I said earlier, an army could easily be made up given a good amount of notice. In the meantime we would enjoy an extra ?x billion that could be spent on something productive, or a fall in taxes. I also think that this would make our enemies like us more, as we would show that we are not interested in using our military for anything other than self defence

those people don't become agressive. aggression is also learned behavior; they have other ways to solve things. You can argue what you want but this is a fact, not something I made up.
The most agressive act is a man pushed another man against the shoulder when they had some argument and everyboddy was really shocked

Re: the army - offenders. [Re: stefan]

I think that the issue of rights and priviledges has to be re-considered.
as computers and security are improving, a day may come in which verifiable identity, and dependable access rules can fairly serve all of us.
Our identity, however determined will be confirmed electronically for all transactions, and if any outstanding issues exclude the transaction right the person will be denied access.

Some things should be guaranteed to all, as rights or freedoms. beyond the necessary things all others are priviledges, whether you have money or not to afford them, priviledge is earned and maintained by merit.

Those who are violent or otherwise undeserving should be denied access to priviledges even if they have been otherwise earned until any ruling or sentence is served.

In looking at this - the monetary system was an initial attempt, the credit card a secondary one, there will be a big leap to implement a judicial one but it is a good idea.

corporations and nations would be treated in the same way.

it should be impossible to seize privaledges from or to deny rights to others.
