Death to cynical optimism!

That's right. I see a new style of thinking emerging out of our collective sea of thought. Right now the head's sticking out, and we can't see the rest of this idea, but if we could, this is a warning, we would see how horribly legless and gaunt this creature is! It's pathetic, deformed, and diseased. What I'm talking about is this kind of stuff.
"Oh suuure man, we can't stop our species from making the tiger go extinct it sucks.."
but then the cynic's like
".. But dude, with all that genetic research we can just revive the tiger from test tubes and re-release him into the environment!"
WRONG. Not only have "they" failed to produce an adequate clone in an existing creature like a dog or whatever, but there's just no way these over-hyped cloning guys producing flawed broken clones are going to figure out how to birth a tiger out of a house cat. It's bullshit!
And even if "they" COULD do this, you'd do well to read E.O Wilson's the Future of Life. This guy, the OG of biology, harvard professor and scientist extraordinaire reminds us that ecosystems can NOT be recreated. You just aren't going to be able to reassemble a balanced ecosystem. There are astronomical numbers of micro-organisms living deep into the dirt that found the base of any system, as well as tons of other kinds of animals that would all need to be placed in a HUGELY complex system.
Nothing can conceive of the complexity of ecosystems. When the current ones are gone, they aren't coming back. Sure other things could be emerged, but it will take 10 000 000 years for biodiversity to emerge. Grasslands with sheep are no replacement for the amazon rainforest. We've got to keep what we've got now and try not to lose other key biological strongholds.
Example #2
"Man, nobody is ever going to be able to get overybody to stop driving SUVs. There's no way we'll switch from fossil fuels to solar panels..."
Then his eyes light up with hope and he's like:
"...But soon we'll run out of fuel and we'll HAVE to switch to solar and wind energy!"
WOAH BUDDY no way that'll happen. We gotta change now. All they're going to do when oil runs out is switch to nuclear and that shit is WAAAAY worse. It's forever. That crap will be deforming creatures on earth for billions of years. It's sick demented evil material. AND the centralization around these nuclear plants combined with the danger they pose should they be targeted by enemies will force societies to be extremely militaristic and controlled. Bye bye privacy and peace. Oil doesn't destroy planet earth, people do.

man, intense
but what if they float nuclear reactors in orbit around earth? or on the same orbit as earth, but always on the opposite side of the sun from earth so that evil aliens or commie pinkos couldn't use them against us. not on my watch.

the answer is to float nuclear reactors in congruent (or whatever) orbit around the sun, and ferry the energy back to Earth. or build a Dyson sphere.
get this: some of Them say that sometimes alien civilizations build a huge Dyson Sphere, which is a big enclosure around the star of their system. the sphere collects all the sunlight and is converted into useable energy. Think about how much of that is 'wasted'! barely .0001 of .00001 or .01%, or whatever, of Sol's radiation falls on earth. so maybe sometimes, in the various intelligent civilizations which have sprung up in the universe, the technology goes toward some weird thing that they build, maybe some ultimate Machine which requires incredible amounts of energy to keep in operation, so they erect Dyson Spheres, nd they are content to gloat over their big Machines until their sun goes nova.
speaking of which, maybe when we see supernovas here on earth, it's actually an alien civilization that's destroyed itself by fucking with atomic weapons or whatever.

Do you have any idea of the safety precautions taken with nuclear waste? Even rain that falls on isolated nuclear waste containers is treated as radio-active material.
A Dyson Sphere is never going to work because we need sunlight for our nourishment.
LPG might actually work, though, if the gas comes from composted materials.
Cynical optimism? Show me the optimism in there, please.

chernobyl was the result of idiots. nuclear power is not bad in itself- abuse of it is.
Hell, drugs are good in themselves and most people here use them, but abuse is bad. Should we outlaw everything good that is judged to be easily abused?

nuclear power is not bad in itself
No, it's great in itself. The problem is the resulting nuclear waste, which will be around for billions of years deforming life for the rest of its run on this planet, and the other things I mentioned namely the necessity for crazy militarization and "civil espionage" in a nuclear society.

I'm sayin, put nuclear reactors in orbit... can anyone tell me if they've thought of this and dismissed it, or what?

they'd eventually crash down to earth.
It's pretty simple. We can't rely on the cheapest and fastest to fan the flames of our desire for "shit we don't need".
We could start changing now before it becomes a matter of life or death, but do we? I don't. But then, I'm not the problem, it's all of YOU!!!
(I'm serious!)
