Bottom not colonizing

Hi, I have a FOAFOAFOAFOAF who had a dream about growing Thai KS cubensis mushrooms using the PF tek. In their dream the jars they were growing the mushrooms in colonized really quickly, all except for the bottoms and the tops, these were cultivating very slowly. In their dream they flipped the jars over in hopes that it would speed up the last parts of colonization but with very mediocre results. The FOAFOAFOAFOAF was wondering what they should do to the jars to make them finish colonizing and start pinning should they ever have this dream again. Also, as a small side note, the mycellium (sp?) in their dream looked like it was shrinking back or pulling away from the sides of the jar, is that normal? Thanks for the help.

Is the substrated drying out? Is it too wet? Experience has shown that when mycellium in a jar starts to retreat it has been because of the substrate not having enough moisture. If the jars where innoculated more than three weeks ago they may not fully colonize. If they are younger than that then dont give up hope yet. Placing the jars on sources of dry warmth will dry them out. I hope everything works out for your foafoafoafoaf. Peace..

After rereading your post.... The cake will shrink away from the sided of the jar.. This is normal but if the mycelium is retreating into the substrate the cake is too dry.

I don't understand, what's the difference between shrinking away from the side of the jar and sinking into the substrate. Also the jars were on a heating pad set on the lowest setting just to keep an ambient warmth around them, do you think that caused a problem?

its prolly fully colonized. ive had this happen when i used steer manure. i finally got tired of waiting so i took it out to case (figuring id take off the layer of uncolonized substrate) but when i took it out there was a layer of substrate that was about a millimeter thick that was stuck to the glass. the rest was fully colonized. well that my story from experience and i hoped it helped.

Also you can take the jar and slam it down on the table to pull it from the bottom 2 possible things to add it can be that the bottom is getting no oxygen or that it is to packed for the mycelium to get at. >>>Experience has shown that when mycellium in a jar starts to retreat it has been because of the substrate not having enough moisture.<<< This will also happen if the substrate was over sterilized to the point that it may have cooked be patient a little longer and see what developes www.thehawkseye.com Sacred Mushroom Spores ---------------------------------------------- Check out Lil' Shop of Spores

I once had a cake that had dried out to such an extent that it was like concrete (im not joking)..I cased it with surprisingly successful results - despite the fact that the uncolinised areas were so hard that i couldnt chop them off...

These jars are using the PF tek, they're not being cased. Do you guys still recomend just cutting off the uncolonized parts and birthing. Also they haven't started to pin yet, should the jars be birthed anyways?
