Heating Colonization
    #333410 - 06/03/01 07:18 PM (23 years, 11 months ago)

Hi all, I'm trying to speed up the colonization of my thai KS cubensis a little so what I'm gonna do is put one of those elctric heating pads in the bottom of a rubermaid container and then put the jars on top of it and then cover the top. My question is what temp setting would be best for this (low, medium, high) and how long each day should I live the heating pad on for? I assume not the whole day because this will dry them out... Any answers would be most appreciated. Thanx.

When I did this I used the low setting for most of the day. No accurate times just whenever I got home I would turn it on overnight and turn it off in the morning. It worked pretty well but now that it is summer the attic is warm enough without any help.

I have seen a heating pad used but not inside of the tub, it was underneith it. Left on all the time at the med setting to keep the ambient temp inside the tub around 83-85 deg. But that was in the winter time. You may need a low setting in the summer, depending on location. The last time this foafoaf colonized his jars he just put a heated blanket on the top of the jars at a low setting, and left it like that. it took about 7 days for full colonization of the rye grain. And the strain was the same you have. I consumed 5g of dried ones just last night. They are very strong at the dosage. I had very good visuals and there was about a 30 minute period where I was having strong body sensations, (Rushes if you will). Good choice on the pick of strain to start with.

Put the heating pad on top of the jars. This seems to keep your jars from drying out.

i submerged mine in water up to about a quarter inch from the the bottom of the threads of the cap.... then put a heating pad underneath the water container and kept the water at a constant temperature of 86 degrees farenheit.... it worked great for me... too adjust temperature better with the 3 setting heating pads just get some bath towels and wrap them around the heating pad.... a few should lower the temp and more should lower it even more... etc etc.. it takes quite a bit of experimenting with to get it right especially since the water can take a really long time to heat up to a constant temperature....

G-nome is right...put your heating source above the jars. That way the heat will radiate enough on the surface to provide the right temp. without causing excess evaporation.
