hot water heater incubation

Hey, is it all good to throw your colonizing jars in the room with your hot water heater?? My room is like 4'x4' and it stays pretty warm in there. would you have to worry about keeping the room sterile or would the polyfil take care of that. I would make a TIT but that room would be perfect for my 24 qt. jars of WBS. :grin:

Probably not a good idea, but not unheard of. If you are going to do it taking basic measures to prevent contamts won't hurt. Basic stuff. A nice clean sheet of painter's plastic covering the entire floor is a good start (as long as it's nice and dry in there). Then you might want to put the jars IN something...a styrofoam cooler or the sort...just something to isolate the surrounding air...

Hope that spawns some creative thinking :smile:

You definitely want to check the temp in that room. I had the same idea until I measured the temp in my hot water heater closet and got readings of 96 degrees. A little on the hot side there.
