Hot Pad Incubator.

Hey, I have a friend who has been using a hotpad to incubate his mushrooms, he suddenly realized that even on the low setting, it reaches almost 110 f, which is well above the 106 f death temperature of mycelium. How can my friend get them to the right temp? He has already read all the FAQ's with aquarium heaters etc. He was wondering if there is a way to do it with a hot pad or some other dry method.

You could probably just put towels over it or something. Or solder a rheostat onto the circuit board of the heating pad.

Just use a towel or two. It's smarrt of your friend to check the temp even on low setting. My friend incubates with a heating pad and a towel doubled over it and it works just fine. Keep temp below 90 and watch it grooooowwww!

The grey squirrel uses an office depot box with a blanket in the bottom, then the heating bad, then a layer of 16.9 oz pepsi bottles, and on top of that sits the original box his jars came in, its never gove above 90, at night he leaves the office depot box lid on and it keeps the temp at around 80-83

Sounds great, i just started to do trial tests with my hotpad and towels to see how many i will need. So far its going well. thanks for your replys =).
