Heating pad incubator idea, is this a fire hazard?
    #2461097 - 03/22/04 05:08 PM (20 years, 11 days ago)

Is this idea for an incubator a fire hazard or a hazard to my jars:
I have a large plastic cooler, heating pad........was thinking maybe if I put the heating pad on bottom of the cooler and then perlite on top and then sit the jars on it. Would this be ok?
I guess I could use a towel or something instead of the perlite, dunno what to do at the moment. I will be buying a fish tank heater on payday at the end of this month so this would just be temporary.
Please help lol

your confused you need to do more reading. You dont use perlite untill after the jars are DONE incubating, then you birth them and put the perlite in the bottom of your fruiting chamber.

From what i read he was only using the perlite as a buffer from the heating pad thats why he said perlite or towel

Thanks Fallen I will use a towel. Just thought of the perlite because it was there and I thought well hell might work lol. Least this way I dont have to waste the perlite.

Thanks~~!!

yep sorry didnt catch that.a towel is a good idea.If your jars feel warm to the touch, they are probably too hot.

Place the heating pad in your incubator first, then cover with a thin blanket. Put a thermometer on that, preferably the lead from a digital "indoor/outdoor" model. Measure what settings on the heating pad bring the container to what temperature. Make sure you don't have a heating pad that turns itself off, you want one where you can have constant heat. Good luc.
