Filter discs... are they really that great?

Hey all, I'm just continuing my search for answers before I attempt to grow these little fun guys. Do filter discs really make that much of a difference? Why not just use a coffee filter?

Hey There was a thread not too long ago, someone tried using a ridiculous amount of regular coffee filters stacked up for colonization and after a few weeks the jars had turned rainbow colors of mold. Those micronmagicks get nothing but rave reviews and theyre cheap as hell.

Coffe filters do not have small enough pores, bacteria and mold spores can stroll right on through with out a problem. The pores in filter discs are smaller than most bacteria and spores so it keeps contams out, while allowing gas exchange. The gas exchange gives a much faster colonization time, at least cutting time in half.
Tired of pimping yourself on the corner to afford spores? Well throw out that red dress and go to the FSR, for spores even you can afford.

polyfill works but for about the same price you can get some micron magick filter disks and have a profesional little setup. They are highly recomended if you ask me.

to make a poly fill filter just make a 1/2" hole in your lid and fill it with a tight ball of polyester fiber. It can be found at craft stores, pet stores, and other places... I use it and it works great

Can you reuse the discs, or can you use them one time only?
