Filter discs as cheap hepa filter?
    #347095 - 06/23/01 12:24 AM (21 years, 11 months ago)

would this work to make a cheap hepa filter? mount some of the filter disks to a computer fan (one on each side or just on 1 sde. and then attach that to an opening in the terrarium?

I'm not sure if the fan will be powerfull enough to move air though the filters or if it would introduce contams any ideas?

ok sounds good i have a few spare 6" fans here i used for water cooling a while back.($5-6 at radio shack if anyone is interested. you jsut need to ad a cord yourself form and old appliance or cut an extention cord) able to mvoe 120+cubic feet a min that should do the trick i would imagine. if it is to stong i can put a varible resitor on it to slow it down.
Thanks for the help

COmputer fans won?t be able to press air through the filter discs.
A 2 x 1 foot HEPA filter has a active filter area of 60 sq.foot.
Therefor a fan can press air through.
A filter disk is much too dense and small.

not useing a hepa filter i ment usieng the those magic filter discs.
they were cheap enough to buy anyway and i'll ahve some left over to try this.
the fan i decided to use is nto a comp fan it is actualy a 120 volt 6" fan
move A LOT of air almost as much as a house window fan.
if i put it on the floor and turn it on it will move it self across the floor in a mater of seconds .(i also need stitches where the fan almost took my fingure off that was nto good)
but it should move enough air. i'll keep every one posted.
if it works it would be a nice cheap thign to use.
