dung

when laying dung in a tray with colonized grain, how should the two be layered?
bottom,middle, top?
while waiting for the dung to colonize do you fan?

No no no silly hippe hoe. It is much better to mix the dung and grain evenly and then layer some dung ontop so that it will reach the surface at an even time. Why mix evenly you say? Because the stern looking guy on the left is telling you to. And that way it will colonise quicker because the spawn is in more contact with the dung and the spawn is not layered with a solid thick layer of dung that has to be colonised; mixing evenly makes the spawn dung spawn distance smaller than layering and thus quicker colonization. I hope you can understand but it was a bit hard for me to explain.
