40 Quarts of Dung innoculated, now what?
    #471877 - 11/28/01 01:36 AM (15 years, 14 days ago)

Hey all, a buddy knocked up 40 quarts of moist dung from a greenhouse, its cow dung, and its all been colonizing wonderfully. The dung was colonized with colonized rye, and the dungr is taken over in not much longer than a weeks worth of time. Anyway, after about two weeks the dung has turned into complete whiteness, and he has it in styrofoam coolers and other bins. So can pinning jhust be initiated as if they are big cakes ? Is fanning essential like in casings? I figure they are close to teh same setups as the dung bros kits, yet we are questioning the quality of the dung,. Even thouigh it colonizes quickly will it give off big shrooms like the dung bros kit? What would the estimated yeild be? What is the average for dung loads? I figure he has over 50 lbs of dung innoculated. Anyone have any numbers?
Peace

A pint is a pound so a quart iis 2 pounds and a 40 is near2.5 puondsso 40 quarts......yes you have 80 to 100 pounds of colonized dung....If this is correct you wil get 100 pounds of wet mushrooms at least now, I think this is a LUCIDDAYDREAM of yours, but if it's not good luck with your 100 pounds of shrooms.......

i think you should just wait until all the first flush's are done and then just eat the whole damn yield in one go. munch munch munch and then say hi to whoever runs this place ( the universe ) for me.

Depends on the shit!

dude found the best shit in a small flower shop in town, problem is they charge like $4 for a 5 lb bag!

he has tried many nursery varieties, all of which had some problem or another. But finally found a great kind at a nursery out in the burbs and bought 160 lbs for like $30.

IOW you have to keep trying different varieties until you get a good one; even if it is only half as good as DB it will cost next to nothing compared to the outrageous price DB charges!

Anyone know the yield per square foot with compost, and the ideal substrate depth?
thanx

Stamets says average yields are 2-4 lbs/square foot over a 5 week cropping period

dude just keeps it in his basement. Right out of the bag, it smells no more than dirt. He puts it in pillowcases and pasteurises as needed. It does have a shitty smell after pasteurization, while draining, but once he adds colonised grain and puts it into sealed tubs, the smell stays in the tubs. Once the mycelium has covered the manure, there is no more smell.

IMO the manure was not composted quite long enough, I don't believe it should smell at all(other than dirt)! I may be wrong though.
