dung again
    #684500 - 06/17/02 04:31 PM (22 years, 9 months ago)

I was having a discussion with a fellow shroomite and we were wondering about innoculating dung in jars and skipping the grain altogether. Why wouldnt it work? Has anyone tried it before? Any input would be appreciated.

It might work but the consistancy of straight manure might be a little too hard packed after PCing. If you mixed it with verm or straw that might help. Besides being interesting, I don't think it would have that much of an advantage oversomething like millet. On second thought, you might be able to grow musrooms right out of the jar.

dung often contains enzymes that are most difficult to eliminate, even with a pressure cooker. in the outdoors, the enzymes tend to get washed away. in the jar, they will tend to make the food undigestible to your mycelium. even mixing small amounts of dung into PF mix will dramaticly increase contam rates, even though the media has been sterilised.
