I just wanted to know (or get some inspiration) how important the value of setting/mood is when having a psychedelic experience. The last time I shroomed, I did not enjoy myself. I wouldn't go so far as to say I had a bad trip, but it was a trip that I wanted to end and free myself from. After it was over, I stopped growing and decided I would put my efforts into something else. Now that I look back at this experience, I believe it had a lot to do with the person I tripped with, time of day, and the environment I was in (which I didn't realize at the time). I'm thinking of growing again and trying to have the experience that I wanted last time. I've had great times on both mushrooms and LSD, but have never been able to get to the point that I seek. Any thoughts on setting\mood\time(anything related)? By the way, it's good to be back. Grimace

i believe set and setting are the most important part of tripping ... especially if you arent mentally prepared or if youre in a bad crowd, etc... i learned that the hard way twice with shrooms, but when i did acid i had perfect set and setting and i didnt freak out once, plus i was with my knowledgable friend. it makes all the difference

Yeah, there is a reason that set and setting are mentioned so frequently amongst psychonauts. If you aren't prepared mentally (set) not so fun things can happen. If you aren't in a good, comfortable environment, not so fun things can happen (setting). You can learn something from every trip; some just teach through harsher methods than others.

I think that the most important thing is that youre really looking foreward to it. example: you haven't tripped for a while and you want to trip again --> now wait another month or a few weeks and then you say to yourself: I'm going to trip next week. and when you reach that moment you'll be so exited that the trip will be super (works for me).

For me, setting means nothing more then the difference of a great trip and a bangin? trip. Though, your mind set will definitely make or break your experience! For a lot of people, the setting directly effects the mindset. Just don't let shit stress you, and have a good time. Remember, your mind is what you?re fucking with, so prepare it well before indulging again. Hydro has spoken! Please! Tell me about the fucking golf shoes!Edited by Hydro on 06/19/01 12:51 AM.
