pasturising Question

Ive been looking around the place for info on pasturising dung. I have alot of old posts about how people did it, but i dont understand WHY not many of them touch upon that. So if pasturising, how high should the temp be? how high is too high? whats to low? what is the length of time required? i could go through and assume some of these conditions, but i want/need a more definant answer.

The term 'Pasteurizing' comes from Louis Pasteur, before he made the conclusions he did the world knew next to nothing about bacteria (mid to late 1800's). So the temperature of pasteurization depends on which bacterias you want to kill but at the same time you dont want to destroy whatever you're pasteurizing; so it's a process of keeping your dung at a certain temperature -170- for 1/2 to a whole hour. I know about Louis Pasteur but I could be wrong about the temperature, but i've seen 170 repeated on some (reputable) websites and teks.

ive seend 170 quoted before and thats what i was going to do.... i just like to know why im doing something....  =) anyone else know whats too high?

Pasturizing at 170 kills bad fungus/bacteria/larva/bugs/viruses/fruitbats/breakfast-cereals but allows usefull bacteria to live. You can totaly steralize your compost if you want, pastuerizing just gives your shrooms extra "umph!"
