a few birdseed questions
    #1108529 - 12/04/02 12:38 AM (15 years, 12 days ago)

is it necessary for a filter disc and allow gas exchange with birdseed, cuz you dont really need it in the brf/verm tek.

do you really need to have a pressure cooker? or can i use a pot and boiling water?

my birdseed is fortified with nutes and vitamins, this is good for birds, but will it help my mycelium any more or less?

im a newb to birdseed teks, and was just wondering

does anyone have a temp at which birdseed needs to be sterilized? since 15psi isnt a good rule of thumb since some people have diff altitudes? 15psi is usually 240F though correct?

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

Boiling temperature is what you need basically, except when dealing with grains you need to maintain this temperature as well as the pressure reached at this temperature to penetrate the grain.
ANything you read in the faq regarding grain is true, so don`t ask questions that are totally contradicting the faq.
It`s there to help you not to misinform you.

correction: 15 psi is 15 psi anywhere on the earth or anywhere else for that matter. if the internal pressure IS 15 pounds per square inch, that means the internal pressure IS 15 pounds per square inch. altitude makes no difference since it is for all intents and purposes a closed system.

the temperature of boiling water at 15 psi is around 250 degrees F/120 degrees C.

Wouldn't a dry verm layer make shaking the seed somewhat difficult? How big of a jar did you use and how long did it take to colonize?

Well, it will WORK without a filter disk,, but i strongly recommend one!!

Whatever you PC at 15psi for 1hr and 15mins WILL be sterilized no matter how high or low you are!!

Vermiculite on top of millet/WBS/grain is pointless once you shake your jars, it will just get mixed up in the grain.. (( rip open a teddy bear and use stuffing to insert thru a hole 1/4 inch wide in the lid, make anoter hole to inject spores )) then cover the whole thing with a double layer of coffee filters secured in place with rubber bands or nylon string..... then cover this with tinfoil before PC'ing.

works very well.

and good luck

oh,, READ THE FAQ!!! haha, , that's the first time i've told someone to read the fucking faq.. but i feel that it truly applies here!!!!!

And to you sir, I say learn how to use the damn reply button to address your posts to the correct person.  But what you said is all true.  Isn't it fun telling someone to read the FAQs.

well, i did read the faq, but i was hoping someone had success witout a pc, or filterdisc, and would share some helpful advice. also, i dint know if the nutrients that shrooms need, may be enriching birdseed also. im not a complete lazy ass retard like some of you may think.

howbout you save the flames for "whats the best strain for beginners", or "whats the best tek for beginners"

i guess now ill just look at other posts, since you "nobles" seem to like to send me to the faq instead of actually helping me

also, what do you have against red?
