salvia seeds?
    #3385536 -

hello all,

i recently recieved a bag of salvia. while sifting through it i believe i found some seeds....or what appears to be seeds. they remember that of morning glory seeds or peganum seeds but with a much lighter color....a light brown to tannish color. they were all conected at the base and spread apart towards top. i'm pretty sure they are salvia seeds, considering the circumstance, but i wanted to see if anyone had any flicks of some seeds or could direct me to site that may have a photo or two.

thanks a bunch
peace :mushroom2:

seeds from erowid
seeds from sagewisdom

did they look like those? Salvia seeds rarely sprout, apparently, but I would love to try!

Seeds would be nice. If they are SD seeds and they grow, you might end up with a new variety.

from what i have read attaining a salvia plant from seeds is next to impossible. seems that salvia is a genetic clone. it would be great to diversify this species into a colder climate atmosphere. does anyone have more information on germinating the cuttings.. as i understand the node is where the leaf meets the stem correct?.. do you submerge the whole leaf or just the node . and do roots actually grow from the node?. thanks all

Roots may grow from the node... the cutting tech is like any other.. ill post some pics..

This isnt a salvia plant, but it works the same..

(mother)

(hmmm... is this a winner?)

(cutting being cut)
*Sheers may be too blunt, its all i had, but use an exacto knife or something sharp if you have it.*

(triming leaves)

(cutting in hand at 45 D angle)

(rooting hormone)

(cutting in being dipped)

(substrate)

(clone inside substrate)

(baby with friends)

(lighting)

(heat)

(PH tester)

(OJ in H20)

(New pH after oj)

Sorry i dont have enough time to explain alot, but basically

Make the cutting at a 45 degree angel.

Cut off any leaves at the base (they will rot)

apply hormone to the stem, and any NODES by the base(more then once if needed)

Put it in substrate (soak with cloning solution water, or even bamboo shoot water works great if your gowing organic)

you want a pH of around 6.0, to nuetralize your pH add like 1 drop of OJ, do not add fertalizer to nuetralize the pH.

give it alot of low lumen light

keep misting your cutting with the nuetralized ph water, or cloning solution water at the base.

you should have roots within a a week if done right.. Salvia Clones Easy!

if you need any help man, just PM me.

What is your success rate with that rooting technique?? I would be surprised if it is 100%.
When I make a cutting I submerge the lowest node in some regular tap water in a beer bottle and wait about 7 days for roots (depending on the size of the cutting)... That's it.
No rooting hormone and no misting required. In fact the one time that I tried rooting hormone both cuttings were dead within a day.
I put my cuttings under a 30 watt flouro on an 18/6 cycle.
I've made about 40 cuttings. I have had 100% success so far.
Salvia is indeed easy to clone.

Depends on what your rooting...
I would not Submerge salvia in the tap water i have here in S.F. its waaaaay to alkaline. I would atleast give it some hormone solution, or even bamboo shoot water.
the water tech works, i wouldnt do it, but it works. there are plenty of techs to get roots from cuttings. but whatever the case you need humidity, you need to mist alot, and alot of other things.

My tech i get strong healthy roots, and i get them fast. It works for me 100% of the time. I tailor my tech to the diversity of the species im working with.

anyway whats so suprising about that? lol.. i think you should be suprised about your tech.

depending where you live, not all tap water is this same. im guessing it would be a 50/50 chance here. for you its 100%, for someone 3000 miles away it may be 25/75.

With this tech its 100% for everyone, if done right.

*by the way i totally forgot, im accually started that submerge tech tonite. ill let you know how it goes. i got 10 Leonorus.L's submerged in h20 with liquid hormone solution.

since it takes about 7 days for you to get roots ill wait that time to see if i even get any callus. if it is the case i do not, i will switch back to my tech.
