My ex and I broke up the end of last year after 3 years, and we didn't talk for quite sometime, she instantly wanted to still be friends, but I had to give it some time. Now almost a year later we get along fine, it can be awkward sometimes, but that's to be expected considering our past relationship.

Just give him some time, if he isn't the one responding he just probably needs to be left alone for awhile, and badgering him isn't going to help but make thing worse. So just stay friendly and everything should turn out civil.

I for one will probably never start a friendship up with an ex again after I get out of my current relationship.

It all goes down hill from there, especially if you end up getting drunk and fucking at a friend's house..

the less you communicate, the quicker you can move on. trust me on this one. the best plan is to make an agreement to cut communication for a couple months - no phone calls, no bootycalls, no emails, no Im'ing...nothing for several months.

the sooner you can diminish your feelings for each other, the sooner you can be in each others' lives again.

sounds like a paradox
and in many ways it is.

Honeymoon stage.

2-4 years down the line, when you're bitching to your family how this new guy is giving you headaches, your family and friends will agree on that too. Because they will never see an unbiased view.  Not only that, but friends and family tend to be 'yes men'.

grphish had a thing going with that rebound idea (on his end). He might be trying to preserve pride by showing off his girl... but she mightve been there all along.  Good chance he's still heartbroken and this chick means nothing to him.  But i dont really know the situation.

Bi0 has some good advice.

This goes both ways though... when i go through a bad breakup i go out of my way to date better looking women for a short period of time just to flaunt them in front of my ex and let her know i am fine and i got a better girl... those relationship never really work out...but its vindictiveness on my side i think that leads to it.
