Perlite in the casing mistake

oops....used perlite for the bottom layer for casing. Not even sure why, guess my mind was on the maggots in the other jars...still makes me shiver thinking about it.

Well, the question is will the perlite be ok...
it is a three layer cake.. perlite, substrate, jiffy mix
it should have been vermiculite, substrate, jiffy mix

I know that it is very hard to confuse perlite with verm, but it happened:(

So, try to recover some crumbled substrate and start over, or wait and see or just throw it out?

That'll be just fine. In fact, some growers use perlite as a bottom layer.

Some people do use it for the bottom layer, but it dries out very quickly. Mist a little more often to combat this.

My personal experience with perlite has been BAD, only because it dries out rapidly. I am using coco fiber now, as a bottom layer, and a top layer. Things are going great!

I've got nicotine stains on my fingers.
I've got a silver spoon on a chain.
I've got a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains

epending on what you used for your casign tray it may be possible for you to inject water right into the perlite through the side of the tray. I know hip does this.
