Why you should always shop at WoolWorths (pics)
    #334740 - 06/05/01 01:41 AM (15 years, 6 months ago)

The family is in for some special mushroom stew tonight...:)

WoolWorths is a supermarket chain down under, just in case you've never heard of it.  Also, I am "The Gnome King", just so you know.  I changed my alias for many good reasons.  Sorry the pictures are blurry, I photographed them with an automatic camera (no macro lens).

Hey!
Where ya from?
Im from Sydney and I recon my collections , could be compared with some people over seas, like for the last 3 days Ive been collecting about 6-8 ounces (wet). Everyday a new cluster or patch appears in the bush and these are olny one specie I have found so far there is another specie comming out soon before the hols that are comming up, which has a relatively large white cap compared to the ones I have, yellow splotch in the middle, thick white stem that is bluish when I found it, and nearly all the mushrooms I saw had blue around the edges of the cap.
The oines I collected thisarvo are the typical P.Subaugarosa and Im ready to wash em now coase some mates wanna buy some tomorrow.
anywayz good luck wiht you find and keep us informed.

Where abouts do you find them? Not the exact location, of course, but a rough descripton (E.g. "Growing out of cow manure in cow paddocks").  I've never found one, and really want to.

Ashaman: You obviously havn't seen how hard they try in the sack when they smell a bit of man beast. It's only a joke.

I was formely named 'Gnome King' - didn't we talk via PM?  I live in Newcastle.

The species I have found grew in ferny conditions, along side the river. The first place I found them was growing directly out of fern litter where a tiny stream flowed fast it.
The second habitat was at a foot ball field near the Lane Cove river, I was riding my bile passed these garden beds full of bark mulch and thats where I found like 8 ounces fresh in one picking. I was picking with a friend while soccer players, young kids, families and council workers were going by with not even an idea that there is a huge illegal mushroom patch 1 meter away from them.Thats why picking in Sydney is good because no one really knows about magic mushrooms so they are all yours. The third habitat is at a golf coarse which connects to the bushland park. about ever 100 m in the center of the field there is these little rainforresty patches heavily covered in ferns, morning glory and other South American weed plants. amongst these are heaps of magics scattered gregariously amongst leaf and stick litter.
I hope my descriptions help you when I figure this posting pic thing out Ill post some pics of the environment which they are found in.

Thanx alot for that. As it happens I wrote a post titled, "How to post pictures. *Instructions*" a day or two ago. It shouldn't be too far gone, and in any case you'd be able to find it with a search. IF you do, reply to it so it goes back up the top. Thanx.

Thanx for that description, I'll keep my eyes peeled.

You found subaeruginosa recentally? I thought Sydney was having 37 C days?? Subs, Australiana and the other woodlovers need the cold and wet to fruit so maybe you guys up in New South Wales might be finding some pans and cubies and any other temperate species, but you'll have to wait until april-may for the real hard woodloving-mush...
* Aussieshroomhead - if you can get a print of the white species, you should send it to Mjshroomer for IDing
* Wombat - after the first coldsnap and rains in autumn go to your local botanical gardens and check the mulch for brown caps - up your way you guys might get Eucalyptus, Australiana and subs. In melb. Ive also found Ps.Cyanescens and someone has told me of a park where Liberty Caps (Ps.semin.) grow so ill being going to check that out next autumn for sure!!!cheers...

Yeah - ive got some beds of subs and australiana going - cant be fucked doing a ps.cyan bed, cause they grow everywhere about 1000metres from where i live. Ive just covered it with plastic and give them lots of water druing summer. Ive also covered the oustide with plastic, as the slugs just cant get enough of that mycelium. Any prints from the white species for IDing?
