    #3309475 - 11/02/04 02:09 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

Fruiting Chamber tub size = 31 gallons
Tub in Tub incubator tub size = ?
Air Pump Size (in gallons) = ?
Heater Size (in gallons) = ?

Can't quite seem to put my thumb on what size tubs to use for incubator, or air pump size, or heater size for incubator.  Please fill in the blanks

well how many jjars are you trying to incubate at once i have one that does 12 1/2 pints or 6 pints right not i use a 25 watt heater and it does fine i dont use air pumps just fanning but id think any size would work just one would have to work harder

also im starting to set up a new incubator ts a 10 gallon incubato and im using a 74 watt heater and it seems to be keeping the temps working perfect buty i think ill monitor for another few days

the heater size doesnt really matter just one will have to trun on for longer than the other to maintain temperatures thats all

incubator can be fairly small. You can stack jars. But if you are planning on casings, I suggust something a little flatter. Mine is about 19"x12"x11" inside tub.

Air pump.. ideally you want 2-3x volumue each hour... so 31gal is 124qts.. that's about 130L... you want a pump that's at least 130L per hour(that means 120L pump is not very good...) You'll need to go 1 large pump with 2 outlets at 240L per hour(pump standards are usually 20,40,60,80,120,160,240L per hour) or 2 pumps with 2 outlets each... I think the best bet because of the number of wands you want to use are the 1-240L per hour or 3-80L per hour.

Heater? I always tell people to get bigger ones for few extra bucks. 200 or 300 W will work even through the coldest months, and they cost few dollars more than 50 or 100W heaters.

Good luck

Sam

i use a 50W in my 58qt tub-in-tub. i also put a piece of 1" foam insulation underneath my tubs to help keep the heat from transferring to the floor (be super careful with that stuff though, it's hella flamable). i've not had a problem with my tubs getting cold, not even close.

for a couple of dollars more, you could be agreeing with me that 200W heater would not make you think about insulation problems.

yeah, i guess you're right.

i'm just energy conscious that's all.  i'm super careful about my heaters too.  i mount them on pieces of ceramic tile so there's no way in hell it could melt through.  when i was a kid, my mom was cleaning our fish tank and she set the heater down on the couch (to this day i don't know what she was thinking but..) and it burned a giant hole in it.  guess i'm a little paranoid from that

i also use a 150W for my incubator and it's great.  i figure the higher the wattage, the less it will probably run as well seeing as it's more powerful.  if you care about being green or anything.  bah, i'm just a hippy....

less insulation higher energy costs!

and even though a 200W heater is only slightly more expensive then a 75W heater, one still can heat 75 Liter to 32C (90+ F) easily with it.. so,

whatever you want! whatever you need! tatatata

Thanks for the info guys! I figured I could just stack jars in the incubator, wasn't sure though so I thought I would check. Sorry that I left out the number of jars. I was planning on using 12 1/2 pints. Meijer is running a 20% off sale on all Meijer brand aquarium heaters so I may as well get 200 watt!! As for pumps I've seen a few going for $25-30, so I'll just grab a nice one so I won't have to worry about my humidity being too low. Thanks again for info.
