Terrarium Size question
    #372637 - 08/15/01 09:16 PM (23 years, 1 month ago)

I'm a newbie and I'm going to do my first batch using the PF Tek. My question is how many cakes can you grown in the 10 gallon terrarium that the Tek suggests using? One or can I put 5 or 6?

I guess I'm wondering how much room does 1 cake from a 1/2 pint Kerr jar take up?

I am assuming you do not have your jars yet??
you should be able to fit all of them in there.
If you have your jars then place them in there side by side and check for yourself.
You can also crumble your cakes and case them all at the same time

I have all the ingredients including a box of 12 jars. I'm wondering how many jars I should prepare. Can you place the birthed cakes right next to each other? From the pictures on the fanaticus site, it looks like they grown out from the sides and thus you should leave some room between them.

also there seems to be a little of a height issue with the terrarium divider. The cakes closest to the middle won't be albe to grow up. Is there a vertical clearence I should account for?

Also, I was going to buy my syringes from the fanaticus site. Is it better to inoculate the jars with 2cc? Will I get a larger yield compared to using 1cc or will it just speed colonization?

Thanks for the help...

i was only able to fit ten, but that was cus i cased and then had a "cake sculpture" in there with four cakes. if you got a wire mesh thing or whatever you could easily fit more than twelve cakes.

how do you expect people to watch the brady bunch without any lsd?

2cc in each jar will not give bigger yeilds, it will increase colonization speed.

If you use the crumble cake"tek" you can fit them all in although you should do 12 jars you are sure to lose 1 or 2 to contams
