Mycelium Growth

It's been 5 days since my friend innoculated his substrate. He couldn't find any brown rice flour, so he blended some organic brown rice (2 cups blended), put 1 cup of organic rye flour, and 8 cups of vermiculite. Did the rye flour screw things up? There's still no sign up mycelial growth.

He microwaved the substrate for 5 minutes, baked for 30, then boiled once the water was added. A washcloth was put under the jars to avoid evaporation.

oh yeah...it was boiled for an hour, and the temp is an average of 75 degrees. He can't raise the temp either.

Wait a bit because sometimes the growth can be pretty slow. Also if the serilization was not properly done the moisture could have been evaporated during any of those procedures. How long did he wait after he boiled it till the jars were taken out of the boiler. because the jars have to properly cool down. I don't know about the flour though. Also seems like the mixtures were alittle too large (use PF's)

The water wasn't added until after it was microwaved and baked. 3 cups of water was added (Simple Cubensis Growing Tek), then it was boiled. He waited about 5 hours after it stopped boiling to take them out of the water, then waited about 2 and a half hours after that to innoculate.

Yeah, there was a ton of extra substrate.
