Samus, whatever you do.... don't listen to platnumbscull caps. Alder forests no good. Buckets of mud, no good. You will find them if you keep looking for white/grey colored woodchips. They like the cover of strawberries, blackberries and ivy. Check along the edges of mulched beds under shrubs and grass. It won't be long until they become more visable.

PlatinumCaps, cyanescens rarely grow in forests. Rarely. They grow in man made areas in woodchips dude. Check some of Borealis' posts, he obviously knows Cyans.
Why are you picking fights over subjects you aren't familiar with?

The blackberry bushes just retain moisure, keep the ground cool, and provide cover. In environmentally conscious areas, the wood chips are placed on the ground of the beds around the stalks of roses, rhodedendrons and other wood loving plants. When an attempt to control invasive species is made, and the maintenence is not done, the weeds provide a good environment for cyans. The mulch is spread out to replicate natural environments of the forest floor, to prevent weeds from growing as well as to nourish the soil. When the alder chips decompose, the temperature drops and it rains MORE, the cyan habitat is complete. That's why they occur in man-made environments, because the conditions are optimal. I think they do grow in alder forests if there is enough decomposing sticks, but parks are easily accessable and premo for Cyanescens.

i have heard others struggling with finding alder chips in the vancouver, bc area... so dont get too discouraged! definitely keep your eyes out, and dont worry if you dont see a whole lot, the season is still definitely early and just beginning!
