The cheap-ass cake pans that I bought to case in rusted while they were in the chamber - is this a problem? This was only their first flush, so I want to combine the substrate from both casings and recase in another bigger tray...The thing is, I think some rust will eventually get mixed up with the substrate (BRF)...
here's the case:
heres the rust:
Suggestions??

Try Covering your tray with tin foil (clean tin foil) before you put down your casing nex time. I think i would spoon out the rust on your casing. Looks kinda nasty =/

I recased in a tinfoil-lined clas baking tray - I'll have to go buy some good plastic trays for the next round - I bought these pans for a buck a piece at a dollar store - I though they were perfect cause they were opaque....

This happened to me during my first grow. It was definately rust, not mold. The mushrooms were great, so I wouldn't worry if I were you. I learned my lesson, and do Rubbermaid bulk casings now.

Rust should be fine. Nice flush. Try aluminum cake pans from the grocery store. Not horribly sturdy but if your careful they work pretty good. You can see the tin foil ones here:
I was using the clear plastic ones but they dont fit as well on those shelves. The plastic ones were shoeboxes instead of the rubbermaid ones for food so they cost 5 bucks for a pack of 4 instead of 8 bucks each for the sterilite and rubbermaid ones (about that anyway). The plastic ones are good for holding 2 quarts though. The tin ones were 2.12 for a 2 pack.
