dung casing vs. verm casing **PICS

puerto ricans in DUNG

puerto ricans in VERM

puerto ricans in VERM

puerto ricans in DUNG

these shrooms were all grown from the same syringe (made from a print compliments of babyshroom, thanx!), the same substrate batch, innoculated same time, kept in the same box while colonizing, etc, etc, birthed the same day, the ONLY DIFFERENCE IS...what is was cased in and i know (NOW) that dung is not a casing but a substare to be spawned (i am dealing with overlay probs now because of my inexperience) but you get the idea. next time dung will be spawned with cakes THEN cased with 50/50+ casing mix ( i already got the peat) hopefully 2nd and subsequent flushes will be much more productive.

when I use dung in my casings, I use dung/verm as the bottom layer. Then the spawn. Then a nice wet layer of verm. It is easy to keep wet and I have not had any overlay problems that way.

the pans are about 8x8 and 2-3 inches deep. one cake was used per pan (i now know i should use more cakes to get a stronger flush, also) and the dung looks like straw because there is straw mixed in. this dung came from horse stables from a lady at my office and it is a mixture of horse dung/straw/leaves/and ash. i have learned enormously from this first attempt at dung and want to encourage everyone ready to move on from pf-tek/straight verm to definitely go for the horse crap. it doesn't stink at all!! well with the exception of the pasturezation process. but...
well worth the minor inconvience!!
have fun!!
oh, sorry no new pics yet, but hopefully soon. maybe i can get some pics taken of the harvest before it is consumed!
