The cause of Karo?

First time contemplating using Karo..... not sure if it's wise. Could someone please brief me a bit about how to use Karo in conjunction with spore syringes and what it's purpose is. I read part of a TEK explaining (and even had pics too) the use of it, but was a little vague to me. Please help me out, I'm about to start my jars in a few days.

You use a water/karo mix. The idea is to make living myc to inject into your jars instead of multi-spore injection. This allows for faster colonization times. Just use your karo/water mix, inject the spores, and incubate at atrd 80-85 for a while. When you see myc floating around in there, suck it into a sterile syringe and inject into jars.

Can i get light malt at the grocery store?
I looked but didn't see any does it have another name perhaps?
