this is the snd time ive used the brf tech on two jars, and it hasnt quite worked for me, i think im doin sumtin wrong, but i have no clue what im doing wrong. Im going to upgrade to a better incubation chamber, with the fish heater and all. Right now im jus using a plastic tool box, but it is at the right temperatuire around 73-74 well i guess wish me luck and tell me what i have when i post pics in the future. are these contams, or does brf usually do this in the beggining of growth? cuz this has happend everytime I have done jars, but each time with brf, thanx for the input guys, late

My 1st 2 grows on BRF did nothing.Used rye grass seed flour on the 3rd and bingo.Hear it is best to use organic BRF.I did a few grows on BRF but never happy with it.You can make flours out of any ofthe grains used here.

It looks like Sour Rot/Wet Sport: http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23418
Hopefully not. Shouldn't the temperature be at 86 instead of 76 because you are incubating not fruiting?

Good call, it would have turned into that if it didn't already...
My first batch of PF style jars were useless. I had everything mixed out wrong... plus I was grinding my own BRF from organic long grain brown rice I found at an organic grocery store nearby, and I wasn't grinding finely enough. I got some rice chunks in there and the one jar that did colonize dried out and stalled at around 75% because it took so damn long... so I just did a little outdoor casing with it.
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

That definitely looks like it's waterlogged...
Follow the PF tek religiously right down to the last detail. I've never used an incubator and my cakes always colonized albeit a little slower. SO I wouldn't rush out and make that investment yet.
How long did you wait before you gave up?...
Give us some more elaborate details as to your method (temps, type of flour, sterilization tecniques etc...) and maybe we can find out where you went wrong.

temperatures range from 74 at lowest to like 76, its brf i think i mentioned that already and i i dont put much water in my verm, barely enuff for it to even drip and then i put the brf into the mix of the pretty dry verm already then i throw that in, pc for 1 hour, then i innoculate by takin off the 2nd layer of linfoil wiith a syringe that i make from a spore print and a shot glass n stuff and i put steming hot water in the syringe like 5 times then i put the syringe in the freezer and let it cool, i did the same with the jars b4 i was about to innoculate. Then i put the jars into the incubator wich doesnt have a fish tank or a heater or anything, and now i believe my temperature is my problem, becuzse this has happend on all four cakes that i have done, same contam and everything.

I would suggest following the PF Tek down to the finest detail. It seems like you are kind of making it up as you go along. I followed it exactly for my first couple grows with great success.
Also, you may try buying some pre-made syringes instead of tyring to make your own right off. They come ready to go. No fuss no muss
Follow directions, use pre-made syringes, and you should succeed.
good luck

yo lsdwanted, not to be a photo snob or anything, but if you could step back about two or three inches you can clear that photo up, notice your background is in focus not your subject, this means your trying to get too close, if thats a digi camera it might have a micro/macro setting, thus allowing you to get closer than normal, mine has a stupid little flower on the screen, this means you can get about five inches closer than normal, clear is always better than close.

If your talking about your incubator temp there, then thats what your doing wrong. The fruiting chambers temp should be 73-74F. The incubator should be at 83-86F.
Other than this i'd actually say the substrate looks to be ok, my cakes looked to be about that moist but 1 week after inoculation and they were about 90% fully colonizied.
Good luck

Chunks of rice which are not fully 'powdered' will do crappy things. My grinder didn't do much of crap to chop up LGBR so I tried to blend 9er's whole grain rice tek with PF, and it sucks goat balls - big huge hairy dirty ones even. The stuff gets wetspot no matter what almost, I had two come through appearing to be OK but when it came time to fruit they sort of sat there like, "huh? you want me to do what now?", and that's about it. There is very little colonization since the whole grains are still mostly in tact.
I was unable to find BRF at the local supermarket, but I did see whole rye flour there of some organic brand which I will have to try out next time (didn't know it would work when I got the LGBR they had and figured my chopper would do a decent job). That is, if my Ramen brick tests don't work well - otherwise it's all Ramen for me (and my shrooms!)
