Update on DB (Attention Ryche: batch numbers)
    #313782 - 05/10/01 07:20 AM (23 years, 6 months ago)

Hey everyone...
This is a little update on my DB Kit. Well, the 4 bags of rye that were originally supposed to be from a bad batch of equadors dont seem to be doing that bad. One of them looks actualy really healthy and is almost complete, maybe 85 percent. It is in clumps of white and a little brown from the berries going. Now heres my questions......the other three bags have all white in them but its only on a little bit of each berry. There are a few clumps. Also, the bag that is almost fully colonized i didnt look at it or touch it for like 2 days and it looked like that. Was my problem that I was toouching each bag everyday and moving the berries around? were you not supposed to do this? Also, could this still be from a contaminated syrnge even though it looks good? The batch number was 32. ryche, could you help me here?

well thats enough for now.....im gonna celebrate

the only thing i can say is leave them alone. for some reason i really dont like the db rye bags. it just might have been a bad batch, but two out of three of them that i got sent got contaminated. i even used a glove box to do all of my innoculation in. i just spawn the compost with half pints. same results just a bit slower colonization of the compost. good luck with yours though. the equadors should turn out absolutely beautiful with the db kit

oh yeah, its supposed to be a little hard cause the mycelium is clumping the grain together. let them be though. i know its hard, but try not to even look at them for a few days let alone pick them up and "play" with them. patience is a virtue

I love checking up on colonising substrates. It is really hard not to pick them up and look at them everyday but if you wait a few days you can really see the growth.

yeah i know what youre sayin. i always say patience is a virtue, but i rarely follow my own saying. im constantly pickin them up and checkin everyspot on them to see what progress was made.

if you wait though it is well worth it. very difficult to do, but a couple days time makes a world of difference in progress

Are you saying that the DB kit can go bad and not produce anything? That's $100 down the drain.

The chance of success is pretty good for newbies though, right?

that would all depend on the common sense factor in the newbie

point the finger blame the other
watch the temple topple over
bring the pieces back together..rediscover communication

yeah you should still know all of the info needed for basic cultivation, so you know what to do if and when something does come up. i would suggest trying and growing them out from scratch first before purchasing a db kit, or if you know someone who has done it before then they can help you through it.

the db kit does eliminate alot of the risk factor that is involved when you start from scratch. there is less chance of contamination on the kits and everything is already sterilized for you, which is one of the bigger steps in cultivation. even if things fail with the kit though, they are usualy pretty leniant guys that might work something out with you for replacements on grain or something. but yes, like anything else, there is a chance of failures. however this chance is very slim and alot better then when you grow yourself (for newbies ;) ). good luck with whatever you decide to go with though
