baby white maggots
    #3134791 - 09/14/04 02:40 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

I opened one of my jars which is 80% colonized and found these little white cuties crawling around - i spotted 3 of them - they are the size of mush-pins, mamybe a nano millimeter smaller. The jar isn't contaminated - yet - or will it- or will they eat any nasties? if anyone knows what the hell i'm talking about- then could it be wise to harvest the grub-magots and innoculate them into the innoculated jars to prevent contams- not kidding.

Uh, doesn't having maggots in your jar SCREAM contamination to you? Of course it's not fungal/bacterial... it's another type of invading organism, an insect. They're also in the FAQs under the contamination section. I'd be rid of those jars ASAP.

just wondering how fungus gnats would get into jars that have gone through sterilization.? unless a bug flew in while you were looking at it.?
also, there are a ton of things that kill fungi gnats, i spent way too many years killing those little bastards in tropical plants, ninjas are always killing things (rule one of being a ninja)        :whack:

i realize that anything in your jar other than mycelia is start over time i just wonder does the gnat larva actually destroy whole crops, dunking in peroxide might kill the suckers, also i wonder if dawn dish detergent added to a dunk would hurt or kill mycelia, cause i know it will kill the larvae, also if it was a reoccuring problem you could make substrate with diatomaceous earth (horticultural grade not pool grade) in it and that would kill any larvae that tried to live in there and it is totally safe for all mammals unless you get some in your eye or accidently do a big honker of rail. haha    :argh:
