I bet this material would be better than paper, foil or wax paper for making prints. It is strong, easily cleaned with an alcohol pad, and easily avaliable. It is just the backing off of a "my name is ...ALDER" name badge. Just throw the sticker part away and keep the back. Here are a few piks to represent the new product (avaliable from my web site for $45 in a tupac or at any osco drug). I would have shot a few piks with mushroom caps included but I wouldn't have the slightest idea where to get those. That is up to you. peace

hey why dont ya just get some ALUMINUM FOIL??? isnt that like $.99 at "anystore-usa"?? it too is cleanable with alcohol and re-usable (but who would want to) ... plus you can fold it up into the cutest little balls that look like rolled up bubble gum wrappers;)... my playstation has used aluminum foil for 5 years... i think i'll take his word for it :laugh:... peace

aluminum foil crinkles up and after it is opened enough the bends break. Untill you try it I would wait to blow it off. BP..peace

i mean it sounds ok ... but some people really dont keep the prints long enough for the aluminum foil to start cracking... (i've never had this happen to me ... maybe they have thicker aluminum foil around here).... i'm not saying that your method is bad ... it's actualy quite ingenious.. it's got that McGuyver flavor to it :wink: ... so if you feel insulted dont... it's just another trick in the bag (so to say) .... peace

Seriously, I like foil cuz....it's shiny!

It sounds like a good idea. I don't think it will absorb the spores like other paper products. I hate it when they kind of 'meld' with the paper. I just wonder if thier would be any glue residue left on that paper.

But $45? for pre-peeled (you will at least peel it at that cost right?) name tag backing? 72 glass slides are only $6 and some change from edmund scientific. I like the idea-just not the price. If ever there is a day when I have the need I think I'll try covering a slide w/ the backing. Thanks for throwing out the idea and not just marketing it.

Nice...only thing I like to add, why do you sterlize your printing media with rubbing alkohol...I just throw it into the oven..

I don't know how many off you have read this, but it is a nice idea (of cause I say this, cause it is mine ;)) but it still is very usefull

the basic idea (more in the thread):
You don't print on a piece of paper (foil or whatever) you print your spores on some sterlie Toothpicks..
the advantage is, that you have your inoculation loop already covered with spores...or you throw some of your toothpicks into a jar with sterile water and some glass pieces, shake and suck up...

yeah, hope you like it..I fet that my first official tek hasn't got enough attention ;)

Prellgott I like that idea, it's very innovatie! I am going to check that thread out when I am done this post. Can anyone tell me how well wax paper works for prints? I hope it works well because it's what I've been using.. I haven't had to get spore off it tho so I hope they won't stick to badly.. anyone?
