Bulk Substrate/Dirty Air...

I am very new. I have done LOTS of searches, and research on my plans. I have decided to try the semi bulk substrate buy using oven bags, and the ?Hawk Magic Formual?. I have a worry about the quality of the air after growth starts. The method says after growth of mycelium is well under way to open the oven bags in a sterile environment, to let air in. This is supposed to increase growth. Then it says to stick a filtered tube in it to let ?quality? air in. I can not afford a HEPA filter?. Man they are costly.

Enough rambling: What can I do to let air into the bags and not contaminate the substrate? Can I just put them into a tubaware container sprayed down with Lysol, or what? Or is the mycelium not able to be contaminated after it is almost fully grown?

Thanks to all, here for the help and advice, it has been very helpful, and helps make me more productive. This is really a great site!!!

Once the bag is decently colonized (maybe 65%) the mycellium can almost always in my experience fight off any contaminations. I wouldn't worry about it as long as where ever you open the bag is moderately clean. I would think that lysol in a tupperware would be a bad idea because it might kill the mycelium which would definately not be good.

cut a piece of polyfill quilt batting into a strip. roll this up and tape it into the neck of the oven bag. this will allow air exchange
