I don't think they are trained to find mushrooms. But I am not sure.

Would be cool to see a dog on shrooms! I wonder whether animals are affected in the same way.

Sorry, I'm not sure about sniffer dogs but the smell isn't that strong.

Hi Emmett,

I have been successful once, but I was very nervous. I was transporting ground-up shrooms in tylenol capsuels through an airport.

I must have walked past about five dogs on my way to the plane, anfd the caps were just im my pocket. None reacted at all to my passing. However, I did some research on the net after this encounter and found an answer to your question:

CAN DOGS SMELL MUSHROOMS? YES! Dogs can smell anything. LSD has no odor or taste, but police dogs can be trained to sniff it out. When engaging in any "transporting" activities, it is a good idea to think that dogs can smell anything. You can never be too paranoid, never be too safe.

The trick is, most dogs aren't trained to sniff shrooms. Shrooms aren't a big enough target for law enforcement at this point. At least in my area.

I have done a test with a cop friend of mine with his k9 unit. I put shrooms in my pocket and walked around the dog all evening. Never a peep. I asked him what this particualr dog had been trained to sniff out. He pulled out some papers and showed me the certification:

Meth, Pot, Heroin, Crack, and Coke.

As I understand it, these are the big five. ALL POLICE DOGS are trained to sniff out these substances.

So, most likely, any police dogs you encounter won't sniff your shrooms, but just remember, they have the ability to.

The dogs will bark at anything, and if the cop is suspicious I'm sure he can make the dog bark which is reason enough to search your shit. I would bet that there isn't a single police dog trained to sniff out mushrooms.

I don't think dogs are trained to sniff out drugs at all times. IE if a dog walks past a person or vehicle containing marijuana, he won't alert. He will only alert if his trainer tells him to check the person or car, so then he looks for it. Of course, it's definatly possible the dog would smell the drugs anyways, and bark/alert without command because it associates finding drugs with getting a reward....but I'm pretty sure the cops will only take heed if searching. Of course, I could be mistaken.

if theyre fresh or dry if there is a large amount and the dog smells it it can be scarey some cop dogs are smart enough to understand that a strong smell isnt good and can trigger barking. seen it happen to someone on tv except they had a shit load of cash in a stash box under the car (not in the open) the dog smelled an oder that was too much and started bugging out, cops cut out where the dog smelled it coming from and found enough cash to be set for life. i dont think dogs are trained to smell out money and super dog found that guys bank. be safer

As far as I know, dogs aren't able to tell regular mushrooms apart from psilocybin containing mushrooms.

i drove my friend to the post office one time, he gave me some trees to roll up and went in, so im sitting in the car looking left and right watching my back and super trooper(k9 unit) rolls up and parks right next to me and the dog goes bizerk i kept the unrolled blunt under my balls (with pants on) and bopped my head to the music, cop goes in post office dogs stopped barking after about a minute once he stepped out the door dog goes crazy the whole time im keeping my cool acting like its the dogs fault or something, cop looks at me and hops in his truck and left.... funny shit about it was earlier in the day a cop frisked me and didnt feel the 3 bags of weed in my pocket. 2 times in one day.

see this is the thing... all psychoactive mushrooms smell different cubes have a different smell to cyans etc etc.. i am from melbourne australia so my shrooms are psilocybe subareginousa.. so surely the dog would have to be trained to smell that specific species of psilocybe.. to train all dogs on the 100+ species would be really silly.. so im thinking.. is it the shroom they smell or the psilocybin in them?

I'm pretty sure that the dogs aren't always sniffing for drugs...the cop has to give him a sign, like what drug to sniff for. He can't let him just go in a car and find coke, pot, or heroin. He has to know which one he's sniffing for. Also-some dogs SUCK at sniffing drugs. My buddy had a *no joke*-QUARTER POUND under his seat when this cop stopped him and had a dog sniffing around his car...and nothing happened.

Just put it in a little baggie, and then put that in another baggie, then put in a bottle of lotion. Then when you arrive you just take it out, throw away the lotion covered baggie and then you're set.

Drug sniffing canines are not trained to sniff shrooms. in fact they prefer not to smell shrooms. It is not something of interest to them.

However it is cool to carry a bag of cat turds in your luggage. Other dogs love to eat other dog and cat shit which they find when going on a daily walk. This should shake the dogs gaurdian up someone to have his dog sniffing shit from other animals.
