my peyote seedlings
    #3020115 -

Here is a pic of some baby peyote I grew from seed.  I planted them three weeks ago and they germinated in about 5 days if I remeber correctly. I am a bit confused over how much water to give them at this stage  Up until this point the soil has been kept moist and plastic wrap was placed over the growing container to keep in moisture, now the soil is dry and im wondering when I should water next...will I still need the plastic cover to keep in humidity?

The container I am using is an old casing tray for growing mushrooms and the soil is a blend of mostly sand, crushed rocks then a bit of soil and some perlite. It was actually pretty easy to get to this stage.

Yep that sounds about right, i got some instructions with my seeds the other day. They have been in about 2 days now. (I can type them out if you?d like)
You won't need the plastic cover when they start rocking and keep them in indirect sunlight (it says for 6 months).

I would let the soil dry out for several days to a week before watering again. Peyote is very sensitive to overwatering. They can take it a little bit when they are just little seedlings but as they get larger they do not tollerate frequent water. Also be careful about not giving them too much light. They can't take direct sun at all and if they start to turn brown, lower the light level.

I water from the bottom to give them quite a good soaking, and water again about four days after the soil seems dry. It seems to work OK.
Be careful with the light! Mine got nasty sunburn, and although they did all recover and are now doing well, it did stop growth for a LONG time!
I'll get some pics...

They look like they are getting a little too much light, IMO they should be lighter and greener at this stage.

Never let them dry out, only after about 4-6 months would I recommend normal peyote conditions.

I've been growing peyote from seed every year for 6 years now, and I experienced that they don't like dry soil at the seedling stage. I just let the soil be dry for 2-3 days between waterings. I allways water from the bottom and allways use rainwater that is at room temperature. Frequent watering seems to make them much more resistent to sunburn. Good luck and lets hope they all survive.

Bottom water them if possible, this prevents disturbance of the fragile roots. If you can't bottom water them use a fine mister but don't over do it. As Jackal said, keep the soil moist for around 4 to 6 months and don't give them too much light. Even indirect sunlight can burn them at this stage.
