Sterlizing Jars Twice

Unfortunately I have no access to the luxuries of a pressure cooker so I must steam sterlize, however I have read that steam sterlization is often unsuccesful, I would like to know if stean sterlizing my jars twice is safe or maybe if it will help decrease chances of contamination?

about 4-5 jars of pf style Vermiculite/BFL filled up in glass cups with a tin foil lid

boil them three times, with about 8-12 hours in between. this is called fractional sterilization.

Yeah the second and third with hours in between allow for undead spores/bacteria left over from previous steps to germinate, and then you heat them again and it kills the newly born contams (they die easier once they 'hatch', but before they latch on - think "contam fetuses"). Doing this three times generally whacks em all. Just for the science behind it.

If they're whole grains yes. My crew did hundreds of pf jars with steam only back in the day. Never lost one to poor sterilization.

Make sure you presoak the grain for a while (I like 12 hours). This will get most of the bacteria to germinate so you can burn the shit out of it with your steam bath.
