Stupid, stupid people
    #2979427 - 08/08/04 09:15 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/South/08/08/bodies.found/index.html

Now, I'm sure some psychologists might be able to elaborate why an estranged husband might kill his entire family before doing himself in. They might even be able to explain how someone might carry out a murder in a robbery when their only intention is to get money. But the recent events to come out of Florida, where four thugs brutally murdered 6 and a half people (a family dog was also killed) over an Xbox gives new meaning to 'All this for 37 bucks'.

What the hell happened is a good question. One person doing this; one might be able to imagine what kind of twisted individual he might be. But to convince three other people to help him carry out the deed... wtf? "Let's go get my Xbox, this guy is gonna pay!"

Troy 'I want my Xbox' Victorino and Robert 'GTA4eva' Cannon

How an evil like that suddenly manifests from something so innocuous as a damned Xbox is obviously beyond any good, law abiding person.

This world is a cesspool of ignorance.

A few years back a teenager stabbed a kid to death to get a pokemon card. When the other inmates say "What are you in for?" His reply will be ludicrous. He ruined his whole life for a pokemon card. Oh yeah...the Xbox sucks so these guys really wasted their time.

They killed the dog?
:frown:
That's horrible. The dog didn't do anything

I wonder what goes through these people's heads. They could've just egged the house and smashed the windows, but instead they violently stab and beat 6 people and an innocent animal to death over an XBox. Ridiculous

WOW. I don't know what else to say. That's incredibly stupid and sad.

Materialism sparks these kinds of things. You don't see anyone going around killing people to get their Chi back.

Man... I've got too many stories so similar to this one... like the story about a girl, her boyfriend, and his dumb sidekick... they were tripping on acid and decided it would be a good idea to kill the girl's mother...

Worthless doesn't even begin to describe these guys, they have negative worth. I believe that is why they are in jail to await more jail.

How an evil like that suddenly manifests

I wouldn't use the word "suddenly", but I completely agree with your sentiments.
It comes from a drastically contracted awareness and doesn't happen overnight.

Very sad.

I assume it goes without saying that the situation must have been a little more complex than just an X Box. I didn't read the article, but I am assuming that the person who had it was someone they knew, and probably had serious issues with. The XBox was most likely just a minor detail. There is clearly some kind of psychological damage that would drive someone to such an extreme reaction for something so seemingly trivial.

I'd also like to disagree with the opinion that the men who did that were "evil". I'm so tired of the term "evil", its such a write off. It allows us to completely forget the complexity of the human condition and simply explain a problem away with a blank term, rather than really trying to understand where this kind of stuff comes from.

I am NOT defending them by any means. I'd just like to remind everyone of the complexity of the current human condition. These men need a lot of serious help psychologically, this stuff doesn't just come out of nowhere. It's not inherent.

It was said on the news that the ring leader of the people who did this was evicted from his home by someone in this group. I think they also gaffed his video game or system.

Florida is like the anti-southern southern state.

Alot of people from up north move there.

I hear many criminals who are on the run hide down south too.

Um...yea, al peeple frum floriduh ar dum

On a more serious note, I heard about this tragic story on the news yesterday as well. The assailants used aluminum baseball bats to beat to death 6 people and the family dog over a stolen xbox. I will not say that the murderers are "evil", but I believe that we are defined by what we do. They are extremely ignorant, short-sighted, impulsive, rash, and dangerous. Deep down inside, we all are essentially the same, so to condemn someone as evil only reflects back upon society as a whole. My work with chakras, energy manipulation/healing, and meditation has shown me that individuals exist on different levels or frequencies. The type of people who commit acts such as this one are typically those who have chosen to locate their consciousness (and therefore selves) in the lower wavelenghts. Just as the electromagnetic spectrum encompasses infra-red, visible light, and UV, people too are made up of various types of energy. This is why when we are angry it is described as "seeing red". Red is a longer frequency of light, this correlates to it being closer to the "material" domain, leading people in the red-vibe to be more materialistic, physical, and apt to be dominated by "survival" instincts like many "lower" animals (I love animals btw, and there are many animals/plants that exist on "higher" levels). These people percieved a threat to their "resources" to be a threat to themselves and all they stand for, and lacking higher reasoning, rational, and compassion they did what they thought was "right".

now what??
all the reactions are valid in personal context, but does this beg
examination of social influences
where did these aluminum bat guys get skipped before they did wrong.
are we not supposed to help them wake up into their adult bodies better?
being as it happenned in florida
the correctional facilities and police will become more powerful yet remain powerless to prevent anything like this happenning again.
now what??

Materialism is not the motive for this. The public may never know the real motive. This answer merely occults the truth of the matter. It is like Florida serial killer necrophiliac necrophagiac Ted Bundy blaming pornography for his demonic behaviors.

BTW, did you take your signature from the 70's National Lampoon character 'Death Rider?' That is where I remember first seeing the line, and it has obviously stayed in my mind all these years.

they may have no motive except to act without conscience and thus serve to draw attention to "the dark side" - we do recognize this as a form of psychopathy, so I call back the issue, how to assist cosncience to form - how to prevent psychopathy in a modern society - how to bridge the gap, redirecting resources from opposition and containment to prevention - compassion for the vulnerable who later become mindless monstrous and hopeless.

same as aikido is not really combatitive yet it is aware of danger.
our social system has to wise up and excercise compassion not re-arm re-fence re-press.

it will be cheaper fairer and no externalization of responsibility has to come into it.
