I'd say our society promotes and values the lowest common denominator of intelligence rather than simply catering to it. It's far easier for power structures to exploit the ignorant than informed critical thinkers. Didn't Hitler say something like "How lucky it is for governments that the populous does not think..." That's probably not the precise quote, but it's the idea.

>> Never forget that half the population has below average intelligence. > Something I have always had to fight against is the assumption that intelligence equals betterness. It doesn't.
I did not mean to imply that intelligence infers betterness, but rather I was trying to show the subjective nature of how we define intelligence.
For example, I went into a 'reststop/McDonalds' with a friend a few years ago that was staffed by all mentally handicapped people. My friend said something like, "There is no way I am eating food made by retards." I pointed out that it was the highschool dropouts that he needed to worry about. The "retards" were too busy doing their jobs to be thinking about spitting in the food, etc.

"It is the wise man who admits he is a fool, where the fool announces himself as wise."
I love that paradox... It always twists me pretty good - its like ok so if you admit you're a fool, then that's wise? Then by admitting you're a fool than are you claiming to be wise, therfore becoming a fool? haa nevermind I'm confusing myself

You're equating stupidity with low intelligence. I don't think that's true. There's lots of different types of intelligence. You could be a maths genius but be stupid as fuck in other areas. I'm talking bout stupid as in their views and opinions are stupid. People who can't be reasonable.

Ahhh... yes, much different. Sign me up, please? j/k

This is very true. If you tested me for computer smarts I would be a genious. If you tested me for grammar/spelling skills I would be a moron (or pretty darn close).

if everyone was wiser than yourself your problem would be multiplied. because then you'd have to do the dirty job that little intelligent and/or ignorant people do. you'd have a common employ, a time to go, a time to come and everyone else would be making profits on your hard work. i know sometimes they make us wanna kill them (with pain), but you should think better, actually they are who run the world. the more intelligent people just manage dumb people. the most intelligent people manage intelligent people. and so on... would you really like to be in the lower part of this pyramid? it's thanks to their hard work that you have all of your goods! think of the poor indian children stretching your nike soccer ball or whatever... think of their calloused hands for some miserable bucks enough to barely get food enough in the end of the month. I'm verbally gifted and reasonably well read so people assume I'm very intelligent. I know tons of people who are much more intelligent then me but they really suck at communicating their knowledge and ideas so they appear somewhat stupid. They mix up words and are easy to mislead with simple rhetorics. Verbal people have it much easier in life.
