All of my agar is fucked. I’m on like t3 with 5 plates and they all are bad cobweb contam. Scrapping everything and starting over.

Will air circulation in the house (heat) cause contam? I am working with a flow hood (it’s small, the guy I got it from claims that he just put a new filter in)

The room I am doing this in is messy…grains on the ground from previous grow etc. I am going to vacuum and try to sterilize the fuck out of everything several times before I do this, plan on putting an air purifier In the room several days beforehand.

I will be doing spore needle to agar plate, any tips of tek would help, really really sick of wasting time and money on this

Hey DJKM! I would try to eliminate variables. I'd maybe start with making new agar plates and leaving them open in the flow for a minute, wrap them up and see if they stay clean.
I work in filthy conditions with a SAB. Didn't have problems until the mites found me.
I think I found my mite vector yesterday. We use a clothesline instead of a dryer. My SAB is next to my closet. Yesterday I grabbed some jeans from the closet, found a bird nest in my pocket.

When I read that the mentioned flowhood is small, my mind went to these small units that some sites are selling, that not necessarily get the best feedback here always. Something about being a fan in box, with no actual laminar flow.

No way of knowing if that might be the case here, but testing or comparing results with a SAB might clear it up a bit. As LadysKnight already recommended.

:whathesaid:

You can also use incense to clearly spot irregularities in laminar flow. When I first got my FFU, everything looked fine, but scanning the whole surface with incense revealed a spot near the centre where the smoke was pulled in the opposite direction back towards the incense stick and the filter. That way contaminants from my hands could also be drawn into my Petri dishes. I contacted the seller, and they sent me a replacement filter with consistent laminar flow across the entire surface. It’s working perfectly now.

First time cleaning up LC on agar.

Planning on a mix of regular plates and cabin sequestering for T1.  I feel like I’m racing ahead of bacteria, should I make the transfers today or wait another day or two for the mycelium to grow a bit more?
