there are cost of living concerns thruout the whole world, not just in europe.

Ok I'll ask you a similar question. If you were in charge of any of the country's facing economic uncertainty and raise in living cost and your people were rioting. What policy would you actually change to fix said cost of living cost crisis?

I can't be sure how to correct it... but I suspect things like, planned obsolesence, our boomer western addiction to constant consumption and resistance to permanence has alot to do with it.

I don't believe policies can stop the locomotive of ignorant consumption. 

I think when the older generations die off, and after the massive global shortages and suffering that is coming, a new society will ultimately emerge, who will be satisfied with sustainability and abandon much of the capitalist globalized system that has become so overwhelmingly complex and expensive.

My solution is rounding up all the rioters and sending them off to a prison colony.  They still have rights and they can leave with how many years are sentence too. No hard labor just education and simple job training.  Everyone wins. No more burning and reducing rent burden to which the cost of living is based on.
It worked for Australia.

theres no one policy fix , for the UK i would start by >

nationalising the energy and water companies

taxing big corps correctly rather than letting them pay less tax than your average mininium wage worker

close all tax loopholes for the wealthy

to claim any benefits you need to have paid into the system to start with

but for me the main change would be to come down hard on government corruption - hundreds of millions (if not billions) was stolen from the tax payers during covid by certain individuals in the government , i would also make polititians legally responsible for what they say and do -rather than now where they can get elected by promising 'x' and never carry it out etc)

feel free to add more, but as you know there no easy fix

Ayn Rand argued that pure, laissez-faire capitalism is not the problem - that economic problems are actually caused by government intervention & interference (regulations, tariffs, public utilities, subsidies). That Ann's ideas still make people furious (to this day) makes me wonder if there is some truth in her opinions.  Some people act like Ann was more of a maniac than Hitler. 

I don't understand why U.S. federal farm subsidies are over $50 billion (yearly)

Yeah... The more I read about this one, the more absolute bullshit, the immigrant or socialist cause angle sounds.

Listen... there have been globalizing corporate forces stronger than any nation state, amassing wealth and power, to an owning class.  Not just the ceo's but a wealthy stake holding class, who is completely out of touch and ignorant to the woes that their 'skimming' creates.  Or they don't care. 

They allow disruption of unions, workers equity, rights and safety; Environmental devastation, cost inflation, planned obsolescence, degradation of public education and entire communities; global wars to continue; and on and on.. as long as they make some kind of profit and it isn't happening on their block. 

This is a big part of the cause of what is happening right now.  A maybe once brilliant idea of sharing the benefit of investment and ownership has morfed into a means for companies to grow through practices that essentially enslave and torment the general public.  In ways so insidious and obfuscated, that there seems to be absolutely no way to fight it. 

France, I feel is just the least likely nation to put up with this shit.  They don't even need to understand the reasons.. They simply know.. IF I CAN'T TAKE MY FAMILY ON VACATION ONCE A YEAR. OUT TO A NICE DINER A COUPLE TIMES A WEEK. MEMORABLE BIRTHDAYS. WITH ALL THE DAILY SHIT TAKEN CARE OF. AND SAVE A LITTLE FOR EDUCATION AND RETIREMENT.. YET I AM WORKING A 30-40hr WEEK. SOMETHING IS FUCKING WRONG AND MY GOVERNMENT/POLICE/COURTS/MILITARY IS SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTING MY ASS FROM THIS SHIT. 

I think Vice is part right.. Round em up, educate and re-train em... but do it to the share holders in companies who bust unions, profit from wars, planned obsolescence and work to degrade public wellness through irresponsible, community devaluing practices.

Citizens in the US should burn more shit. We’re too fat and lazy. Then when we do burn shit, standing up for poor people and poor people things, the other poor people symp for the rich.

It’s just pathetic.

And Vice is exactly the type that should get rounded up. The French population on average is very educated. It’s a stupid idea though, and is an uneducated position and shouldn’t be taken seriously
