Pseudo casing layer after S2B? * 1
    #29693021 -

I S2B Thursday 10/8 my 44qt tub.

Excitement and newness caused me to forget to hold substrate back. I don’t believe this is a problem but would like to add one.

Also I’ve seen two trains of thought. Straight to fruiting conditions or keep it sealed up? I’ve been keeping it about 72f

My other spawn is about ready and I’ll spawn to bulk two 6qt tubs when it finishes up. 😁

I’ve lost my ability to post pictures and don’t know what’s up with that.

Thanks for the advice in advance and happy weekend everybody!

You can add a top layer while the sub is still colonizing, it should be just fine or run the tub without it, your call.

Spawning conditions = fruiting conditions. Sealed should never be a condition, mycelium needs to breath like you and I. Having the lid on will typically suffice for a 6qt tub unless the tub has external latches that truly seal the tub. In that case flip the lid.

If you don't have a supporter account you might have to delete som older pictures to upload more, supporter account is awesome btw :awesomenod:

Adding a pseudo casing two days after spawn to bulk is no problem, so go for it

I personally like to hold off the amount of fresh air exchange during substrat colonization because my humidity is quite low this time of year, but I still have a some amount of passive FAE and increase it as the fruits mature, it's very easy to do with the ez dial hole configuration.

And a good weekend to you too :hatsoff:

Ninjaed by the subtropking, but still posting :snub:

Hmm I did delete the old pics. Oh well supporter here I come.

Thanks each for your replies.

I’m a newb so I bought a 44qt tub and supplies because I have been wanting to start this hobby for a few years. So that’s how I got here. That tub has 6 holes total. 2 on each long side positioned lower and one a little higher on each end. Sure you’ve seen the type. I replaced one of the side plugs with a filter patch. Good enough?  Humidity here has been in 50-60% range. Might go a littler higher here with recent rain.

Two days in the tub and mycelium popping up nice and evenly across the whole surface.

Soon I’ll be spawning to bulk two 6qt tubs with the same strain just finishing up in a grain bag a little slower.

I’ve learned a lot and how I’ll do things differently the next time. Thanks to everyone who’s contributed to the site!

Please don't encourage people to delete old pics in order to upload more. There is no way a newbie could have exceeded their upload limit by uploading a few pics. There is nothing worse than going into a pic heavy post and finding the pics gone. This is a temporary bug or glitch. Ythan has been informed about this problem. - But yes supporter accounts are awesome.

Truth, what I was encouraging was to get a supporter account to have unlimited uploads and post more pictures. So happy your back veggie, nothing but gold from you

I did it!  Went supporter level to show some love back. Hopefully the glitch is restored soon and I can post pictures again. Then I’ll update my whole process to show other beginners like me.

I mentioned above I switched out one of my plugs to a filter patch on the 44qt tub. Do you think just one is sufficient? Or should I do one diagonally across the other side?  Sorry lots of questions so thanks for your time.

Forgot to take a picture of the surface before adding pseudo casing. Was looking mighty fine to my eyes. Smells good. Even colonization across the sub. Casing added

Coir prepped and ready for my 6qt tubs. Just letting the mycelium finish up. :crazy2:

Might as well add a photo of after I added a thin pseudo casing. I squeezed the shit out of the coir and only a couple drops. Gave a light misting after adding and put the lid back on. Filter patches on each short side that are up a lil type higher. I can’t believe how fun this is!  And the community here with all the knowledge is irreplaceable. Already fantasizing about agar plates and making my own spawn. The new strains and possibilities! Much love everyone. Hope you all had a great weekend.

Looks dry to me🧐

Open to all suggestions and what I should be doing next to prepare. Thanks!

You are in good company:heart::mushroom2: I fuckin love mushroom cultivation. It's somewhere between growing plants and baking, with all the steps and information, which were my previous hobbies. Not to mention I get to have lab which I always wanted:hehehe::mushroom2:

Surface looks a tad dry to me as well, another couple mists will do.

Been a good weekend, how's your been?

Will stay tuned for updates:camping:

Mush love:mushroom2:

Brother I couldn’t agree more! Not so much baking but cooking and growing for me. I love getting to know the nitty gritty about genetics, strains, mutations ect. All the fun stuff and mycology seems endless. I think it’s so cool to make these environments and watch nature go. I definitely can nerd out. Also, who doesn’t want a lab!?

We had a great relaxing weekend. Event down in the city and then Sunday was the big chill. Thanks for asking and keep rocken on.

Thanks for input. Gave a few sprays and letting it ride.

I shall update as it comes. Cheers

It's certainly a hobby you can pour as much or as little as you'd like into it, truly endless possibilities.

Glad you had a nice weekend, a nice time of year for events and a big chill is always in season:cool:

Hey sorry to bother you but I have some questions about my upcoming 6qt tubs. I bought them without considering the dimensions but for the cheap price. I know it won’t be a problem but. It measures 13” long but only 2 3/4”. That leaves little room for substrate depth. When the fruits start pinning do I just flip a second tub on top? How deep should I make the cake?

Thanks for your ideas on this!

Never a bother my guy, 1:3 ratio will work fine regardless of dimensions. Yeah, you'll definitely have to dubtub (stack one upside down) when they begin to fruit.

Check these out

They sell em at Lowe's for like $4 a piece. Tonnes of head room. Its like somebody tried to make the 6qt shoebox even better for mushrooms growers

Another thing you could do it pop those in a Water tub without the shoebox lid on. Just make sure there is the perfect amount of headroom so the humidity concentrates properly, ideally like 6-8in from the substrate level. If it's too tall they have a hard time pinning because the humidity all goes to the top of the tub

That’s what’s up with Lowe’s info. I’ll have to be heading there soon enough. I think I’ll go the dub tub route this time.

I appreciate your time.

I’ve read the info but sometimes it’s good to double check with someone who’s done what I’m trying to do.

Big ups
