My last surviving plastic Yeti LC cake. I think the contamination came from handling it and creating airflow on the plastic lid. Jam jar ones are A-ok.





Got a KSSS print from a user here, and I gotta say that thing slaps. Very fast growth, incredibly clean print. I had even shot some spore solution straight on millet, it colonized well and while I could have g2g'd it I didn't tempt fate. Should be a nice lil shoebox though.



I also got Columbian Rust Spore (does anyone know the actual origin? apparently was on a vendor sitre under B+ for a while, the Columbian aspect seems to be bs). I inoculated 8 cakes, which was absurd. I guess I will have a bunch of CRS for crossing, which is a interesting candidate. Any experience with these? Taking off!



Anyone doing straw cakes yet?

^ I know that, I meant for this competition.

Gonna noc up some WBSF coir cakes with Great White Monsters and Wild Australian Murbah. I think next cakes will be straw ones.

Did you ever pre-cook the stuff on the stove like Muda? I haven't tried that. In the past I failed with you tek but it was with oat flour and that simply does not create a good flour alternative in my limited experience compared to oatmeal, brf or wbsf.

Has anyone tried placing the rolled cake in a painters bag that is lined with additional substrate, and then hanging it in a dreamer tub?

I might try it, but if there's good reason please let me know! 🍄🧚❤️

If they aren't going well, adding more substrate wont do anything but make it worse. What makes you think they arent going well?

KSSS BRF+coir cakes in bonne maman jars (which use the same lid size as common 24-32 oz. pickle jars). I forgot to skewer the cakes before PC-ing, so the myc is working downward but didn't get a head start upward from the center column & bottom. They're probably going to finish in a week or so, either way. These are from four different cleaned up agar transfers from a KSSS germ plate.


Hillbilly Pumpkin clone, BRF+coir cake in a pp5 quart. I remembered to skewer that one.

All were inoculated with "quick LI", meaning, I cut partway through agar so it'd break apart easily (like partially-attached ice from an ice cube tray), then transferred the whole wedge into a 5ml cryovial with sterile water, shook the absolute crap out of it outside my SAB, and poured it into a cake jar. Even if the liquid didn't spread around some myc, the little pieces from the agar wedge also give a couple inoc points.

I was going to do ochras too, but got too busy. I might still make quick LI with my low-spore black cap culture, but at this point if I start cakes from spore they may not fruit in time. Haven't decided yet.

There's still time, and since some jars freed up—gotta make more cakes. Make more PF-Tek, or else Mr. Cakewonder is gonna unleash all his rage on me... :lol:
