Hi all! I am looking into buying my first FFU coming from a sweaty SAB and deciding on 2x2 vs 2x4 units on a table blowing in my face style. I will be doing 3lb-6lb spawn bags and G2G, with plate pouring and transfers, LC Innoculations ect.

I have heard it’s possible to stack two 2x2 side by side in an array. Has anybody here tried that out? Is the center between the units a no go zone or would that provide a true 2x4 workspace?

It seems like a good idea to start with a 2x2 and if I need more room to get a second identical one and aluminum foil tape between the gaps and maybe screw a bracket on to anchor them together. What do you guys think?

I’ve got you beat by double the size lol 4 X 4 FEET

I bought them 5 of them second hand from a electronics chip manufacturer at $75 each and sold 3 at 500 each 🤷🏻‍♂️
I don’t really need that much space to work in, but it sure cleans the whole room in about five minutes when I use them

Should I get a fan controller as well? It looks like the unit only has 3 settings itself.

Do FFUs require the same speed tuning as a LFH if they have no laminarizing fins? Since the fan speed on LFH is because the fins are tuned to only produce laminar flow under certain conditions, can you run the FFU in a broader range since that concern is absent? Sure turbulence would go up as speed does, but idk if it's more forgiving.

Edit: GPT's take: the filter does a lot of straightening itself, and the FFUs still have things like straightening plenums inside in a lot of cases. They're a bit more forgiving on airflow speeds, it all shakes out about the same on the timescales and distances mushroom people care about (working inches away, not feet, doing things that are mostly measured in seconds and not hours)

So seems like the fan controller's prob safe to skip
