Air Exchange Unit, tutorial for "Told"
    #1436857 - 04/07/03 07:00 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

First your going to need the following things:

1) shoe box sized rubbermaid container
2) small hepa filter (RPS Products best air # H24)
3) a tube of kitchen grade silicone
4) some aquarium hose
5) two medium to large aqurium pumps

To attach your hepa filter to the lid of your rubbermaid tub. Start by cutting a square hole in the lid, the hole should be 1/2 inch smaller than the diameter of the hepa filter. ( utility knife works well) Now u can fit the hepa filter onto the lid. If it looks kool then silicone them together!! Oh make sure u have the hepa filter right side up!!

Now you can place your pumps into the rubbermaid tub. You can secure them down with zipstrips or double sided tape, but its not necessary! Now hook up hose to the pumps. ( u may need a t spilter if your pumps have duel outputs, like the hippies) Then you need to drill holes for the hoses and power cords to exit the tub. Dont forget to silicone the holes up!

Ok now if every thing looks kool, you can now silicone the lid to the tub!! The hippie suggests you let your unit dry complety before using. If your silicone is the slitest bit wet you could give your little shroomies " rosecomb " it makes the grow up to be deformed!!!

You should be able to pump clean fresh air to three 70 quart fruiting chambers!!

The hippie is very lazy and hates to fan, he managed to get these on a second flush!!!

The hippie is using two tubs. The bottom has water and a little bleach with a 50 watt submergable aquiarum heater in it. This is to maintain the temp between 72-74 degrees. The upper tub has the perlite. He has drilled a hole in the upper side of his fruiting chamber and plumbed the hose in like this:

The hose is blue, and the aqua thing is flat air stone found at your local pet store!!

Very nice lab, though I would suggest switching to casings and ditching half that equipment . You'd get larger flushes too.

Hello Hippe,

My friend has a few questions

Why did you put the air stone on top of the perlite and not in the water?
The perlite is separated from the water by a screen or grill?
Should he assume that the hepa filter is a must, since the air does not go through the water and perlite or geo lite which ever he prefers?

He has this setup built and ready to get going thanks to your postsand others thanks again,

Geolite base
Kkaz CMH runing into the tank with a 1/2" hose.... mist to be displaced by a coke bottle cut in half (in length) insde the chamber.(wondering if he has to run the Kaz into a few coke botles BEFORE it goes into Grow chamber as suggested in MMGG)<------------ need help with this one.....
5-15 gal Heater
Airstones-- 2 submerged
20-60al Airpump two air outlets.....,

.. if that does not cover temp, RH and air exchange he feels nothing will!
He is waiting for now is the myc syringes...... wish him luck.....He will post pics in the grow log when he starts. He heard lots od stories about low or no potencey when they do grow.... wish him double luck

I dont know why the hippie placed the air stone on top of the perlite?  I,m  thinking the perlite gives plenty of hummidity without having to use and bubbler tek.  And, no the perlite dosen't have a screen under it!  The hepa filter is not a must,  but is highly recomended to prevent nasty contaims.

The hippie seggests to use a second rubber maid tub with water and your heater in it.  Putting your heater under your perlite/geolite, could lead to trouble!!

And the geolite is a plus,  the hippie is expermenting with it. (poor mans pod)  He's also using a cool mist hummidifier and a 116 quart casing chamber

He see's  no need for the fresh air exchange unit or perlite in the the days to come.......

I am thinking of building a poor mans pod as well, but i have a question:

which does the hippie think will work better for casing:
geolite layer with airstone much like but with casing instead of cakes
or

I?ve read that casings need less humidity than cakes do, but how much would ?cake humidity? affect the flushes of the casing?

english is not my first language, sorry if its hard to read...

If your going to use a casing tek you should lose the perlite/geolite, the hippie says they produce to much hummidity.
Go for a vick, or a kaz cool mist hummidifier the hummidity and air exchange is perfect for casing!!
