That’s exactly what I’m saying. I totally agree. Maybe I’ll just try it again and use the same ratios. I don’t know how that happened. I think it might have settled in the PC somehow?

Edit: just made these. This is what they look like going in. I didn’t sift them this time because I wanted to hurry and because I didn’t sift with the practice jars and those turned out just fine.

The rules this time say "Inoculate your cakes using any method that you want to use", whereas the previous two CWs were multispore syringe only. By "LI I made with prints" you're probably referring to spore solution? "Liquid Inoculant" sounds generic, but typically "LI" refers to something closer to this, little cut bits of agar shaken up in distilled water and then used like LC. LI works great for cakes, growth starts much sooner than with spores germinating.

Either way it seems to help the cakes colonize quicker.

Something told me to check the cakes out and I'm up late... one of the AA+ half pint MSS jars looking like liftoff!  I plan on doing LC and agar drop cakes (I have dried out seeds as well), but cool to see something happening with older spores, late 22' if I'm not mistaken.  Anyway, hopefully see something soon from the Taz and APE PR.  Off to bed, be well cake cultivating compadres!

Fingers crossed no ugly contam shows up along the way...

Damn, Pastywhyte, with 24 cakes you win just on pure statistics. And man, you can really tell the speed difference with LC.

Looking at it that way — guess I'll have to prep more cakes. :smile2:

I'm in too. A bit of a leftover cakes. Didn't bother to go buy verm, so used coir. Also used last of my leftover brf. Salvaged some plates that were pretty much neglected. Ad-hoc LI from two plates and plate print spores and probably maybe some myc from one.

It's all perspective. In my case I was actually thinking how nice it was to just do a little grow, nothing huge. Course im gonna run grain soon and thats gonna a get outta hand fast 😆

Anyone is free to ask me out for New year's but you'll have to deal with my GF. She is only 4'11" but is like a chihuahua :lol:

I'm doing all my cakes with just coir, because I don't buy vermiculite. So I have a top layer of pure coir instead of a verm filter. Thing is, the mycelium will gladly colonize that. Hell, it often starts there.

What sort of considerations for birthing/fruiting comes with that? I normally just fruited my food container ones like little trays. Perhaps flipping them over for more surface area would be better.

Were their any insights from the last Cake Wars?

I used LI for my cakes and just skipped the top layer since I'm not using a regular PF style lid with holes directly in it.
