Brahmi - it’s gotta be good when now-sober Asante has a kilo in the freezer ^_^ * 1
    #29654001 -

There’s a herb among supplements that receives relatively less interest in the west, but is one of the most prominent herbs of Indian Ayurvedic medicine.

It’s Brahmi, an unassuming little wetland plant with the highly reverent name, as Brahmi means “Little Brahman”, or “small guise of the Supreme God”.

Its not a “drug” but gets you high in another way: it makes you higher-functioning, and that does not stop when you stop taking it.

One of the great things shrooms do is that they enhance neuroplasticity, and with it, it causes your brain to grow new neuronal connections, it helps your brain to become more physically complex and better interconnected.

Brahmi does this too :birthday:

If you take Bacopa Monnieri Standardized Extract (usually 20% or 50% bacosides) once daily, typically in the morning, the acute effect is a bit lacklustre: you feel a bit chill/calmed. If you take this over many months though, gradually your memory, recall etc will start to improve and these improvements for the most part will last after you stop taking it, as they mostly are the result of your brain having built itself up. One of the first things you may notice is that temporary passcodes, as used in 2 factor authentication, and phone numbers, get put to memory right away, not requiring a second take. As you continue, it builds and builds. You start to complex-reason faster, people will notice.

Like Ginseng, Brahmi is adaptogenic, but relaxing rather than stimulating.
You get more chill - while getting more alert.

Quote:
Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), particularly its characteristic bacosides, is traditionally regarded as a cumulative rather than immediately stimulating cognitive aid, with prolonged use being associated with gradual improvements in memory, learning, recall and aspects of attention. The most consistent human evidence points toward enhanced memory performance—especially delayed recall and the ability to retain and retrieve newly learned information—while experimental research suggests that bacosides may support the biological foundations of these effects by promoting synaptic communication, neuronal resilience, neurogenesis and mechanisms involved in synaptic plasticity, including pathways associated with CREB and the strengthening of connections between neurons. Through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions, they may also help protect neurons from oxidative and inflammatory stress, potentially creating a more favorable environment for the brain to adapt, learn and form new connections. Taken together, these findings suggest that regular, sustained Bacopa use may support not merely sharper recall but the underlying capacity of the brain to learn, reorganize and maintain functional neural connections over time, although the magnitude of these effects varies between individuals and the evidence for enhanced neuroplasticity is considerably stronger from mechanistic and preclinical research than from direct human measurements.

My advice: buy a big jar of bacopa standardised extract capsules or pills of at least 90 doses - cheap but standardised, to see over at least 3 months whether it vibes with you, if it does, order a kilo of the standardised extract directly from India, store in the freezer, and take a scoop a day.

The kilo from India might be cheaper than the 90-180 caps you might buy to try, so you might hop over the jar to the kilo and cut out the middle man. A kilo of 20% = 2000 doses of 500mg or of 50%, 5000 doses of 200mg, so if you can buy 250gr or so, no need to stock up for 15 years

My kilo of 50% bacosides extract (15 years) cost me under 30 bucks.

Interestingly, I found that the extract is tasty when used as an instant herbal tea, either hot or cold. Put a day dose in a water bottle, shake, presto. So, not just a good medicinal, also a tasty beverage, with a dash of sweetening. Bacosides taste a bit tea/licorice like.

This herb, like any herb, might not agree with you. Its a potent medicinal, it may act adversely, check your response.

If you are on meds, check compatibility.

Brahmi is usually used by the elderly, but interestingly also by college students, both to “keep up” mentally.

Trip benefits without tripping? Yes you can :sun:

I was taking tulsi tea for a while, its also Ayurveda herb, its an adoptogen but weaker then ashgawanda, but I was worried I have a bad heart and I heard ashgawanda can cause heart issues, plus I learned to just like the taste of tulsi

How long have you been taking this flower? Have you noticed improvements yourself?

It's great stuff, from what I've heard there's actually two Indian plants that get the same name of Brahmi, and both have similar brain effects but the one you mentioned (bacopa) is considered stronger I believe. The other one is gotu kola which is also great, but the two have some differences as they aren't related species of plants. Just throwing that out for those looking into the supplement. :sun: Both are great but you might want to research each and see what makes the most sense for you.

I bought gotu kola in like 2013 once, I forget why, but I remember having a headache one day, and in was out of tyleno and nsaids, so out of desperation I took a gotu kola, and it worked, I think it dialtes blood vessels iirc

Makes me think of ginkgo biloba as I think that dilates blood vessels and can relieve headaches, though maybe gotu kola does too

I recommend you not take any supplements or anything that isn't prescribed by your doctor, Asante.
You've made similar posts like this in the past for other drugs, such as memantine. I told you it was risky and gave you warning, and you ended up in the hospital recently for a long time.
I really urge you to not take up new drugs on your own.
This thread title is "sober-Asante" but you're literally talking about taking a new drug in it, seem contradictory.

Bacopa isn't much more a drug than chamomile or mint  - def not anywhere remotely inthe realm of mematine or a 'psychoactive compound'

Ashwagandha gave me some irregular heartbeats when taken in high doses on an empty stomach. A low dose however improved quality of life for me.

I took it for a few months, then a 2 month break during my hospital stay, now i’m back on for a month and things take off again.

My 53yo brain functions better. Memory, recall, rapid adoption of new facts and juggling with them complexly mid-conversation, effects already are pretty remarkable. Around 50 theres some decline and it perks right up, without it being a stimulant - its increased capacity oif the brain, and a better grip on stress, as an adaptogen should.

If you’d rather not, no need of course. A lot of nootropics either failed to work for me or even backfired, giving anxiety etc. This calms BUT makes more alert, the opposite of a downer.

Gotu Kola is very familiar in the legal highs trade, Bacopa isn’t really a high but a life improver.

Youchorama!

Discover our premium Bacopa Monnieri supplement – an authentic Ayurvedic nootropic sourced from India's tropical wetlands where this revered herb has thrived for millennia. Each vegetable capsule delivers 300mg of concentrated 20:1 extract (equivalent to 6,000mg of dried herb) standardized to an impressive 40-55% bacosides. Formulated in Canada following cGMP manufacturing standards, our vegan, non-GMO formula is free from gluten, shellfish, and egg allergens. With 120 capsules providing a 4-month supply at just one capsule daily, this supplement is traditionally used in Ayurveda for memory enhancement.

300mg of 40-55% bacosides? That’s a lot! You could easily take half a cap a day and still be sufficiently dosed - stretching 120 days to 240. 150mg of that is quite enough, 300mg of it might give side effects because of high dose.

Try it, if it doesn’t feel right, take half, or the other way around.

AI:

I’d say this looks like a pretty solid Bacopa supplement, and the 300 mg daily dose is right in the range that has actually been studied for memory and cognition. Just keep in mind that Bacopa tends to be a “give it time” supplement rather than something you necessarily feel immediately—benefits, if you get them, are more likely to emerge over several weeks. The 40–55% bacosides claim is impressively high, though I’d be curious whether the manufacturer provides independent testing to verify it. Overall, though, I think it’s a reasonable experiment: take the one capsule consistently, give it perhaps 8–12 weeks, and pay attention to whether you genuinely notice improvements in memory, concentration, or mental clarity rather than expecting a dramatic effect from day one.
